I also had a pretty good experience with spence when we ordered my engagement ring it came in on time and live etc. However, when we went to order my wedding band it was a different story. They sales people pretty much ignored us and it took them forever to service us which made me pretty mad. But i got over it because I just figured they were busy since it was a Saturday. So we ordered my ring which had to match my e-ring because of the design of it (ill post a pic) and picked one out for FH. A week and a half later they called to say it was ready so i went in to pick it up and they had ordered me the wrong ring!!! I was not a happy camper.. it wasn't a big deal since my wedding isn't until August... but the lady at the desk made it feel like it was my fault.... even though there is only one band to match.. it was no big deal they just sent it away and ordered the new one.... I just think their service could improve a little... but the ring is pretty.

Yea it seems their settings are made for certian sized diamonds. try to stick a large diamond in a small band and they wont do it because of breaking, try to stick a small one in a larger band and it would be too loose or look funny. Some times though they have the same setting style in a couple different sizes. it changes the look a bit though.[/quote]

Oh I thought the same settings come in different sizes to fit different sized diamonds. Thanks for the info :) Maybe I should do more diamond shopping.

Hi,
I'll share my experience about the Mississauga location, only because I think if you do want to deal with Spence you have to make sure you are VERY specific.

Altho my finished e-ring from Spence is fantastic, getting to that point was everything but.

When we picked the setting we liked, we were told that although they were showing it with round cut .5 carat, it would be no problem to have it made with a 1.0 carat princess cut which was the stone that we had already purchased. Were they ever wrong, the ring came back looking awful. It took them three tries, and eventually they admitted they should never have sold us that setting. We had to pick a whole new setting. When we got back the ring in the new setting, the wedding band that was supposed to fit into it did not fit.
Very frustrating as I was without a ring for 2.5 months.

On a side note, my dh also purchased a pair of earrings from them and they have had to be replaced twice as the clasp keeps breaking!

My FH had a great experience at Spence Diamonds! He said that the sales people were nice and very helpful. I LOVE my ring!! we'll be going back to get the matching wedding band soon! He went to the scarborough location I believe.

If you found a set you love - I'd say go to spence!

I had a fabulous experience with spence picking out my wedding band, their prices are a little high, however their stuff is excellent quality and many unique styles.

I had and am still having awful time with the store i bought my e-ring with.. just last week, 5 months after i got it, the diamond cracked!! and this is after they told me i scratched it 2 days after i got it because there was a noticable inclusion on the surface of the princess cut diamond, so i went back to ask them about it and they said i must have scratched it... ya but anyways i am so thouroughly impressed that my diamond has now cracked that i can't possibly vent anymore. So i would reccommend spence x1000 and NEVER EVER use paris jewellers...did i mention that i called and cried to some lady at head office who promised to call me the next day and never did since she lost my phone number???... so ya...

DH bought both my e-ring and w-ring at Spence and loved the service he got there. I found the ring I liked online because I still lived in the states at the time and he went in and talked to them. Apparently they weren't making the setting at the time but had one ordered for him....along with the wedding band to go with it.

I have not had any problems with my ring and I love it. It is so unique and I am always getting asked about it. We knew we were going to get either a 1 ct diamond or close to it to go in the setting. What I ended up with was a .93ct VS1 D-color diamond. They also had a good payment plan for the rings!

We went to the Spence at 400 and 7. We had a great experience. We told the lady our budget and she found a wonderful diamond that was in our budget. My ring is stunning! They never tried to upsell us, they were very accomodating, and super nice and friendly! Their prices were good, especially for the quality of diamond that we got. Compared to larger stores like Peoples, Mappins, etc. Spence's prices, quality, rings, service, etc we far better then anywhere else!

Hey there. I think I am one of few who had a very good experience with Spence. FH got my e-ring there, he went in, picked what he wanted, and they didn't try to upsell him or anything. The guy was very nice, knowledgeable and helpful. I love my e-ring and went back there to get my w-ring too. No problems with either so far...have yet to take my e-ring to get sized though...can't bring myself to part with it for a week.

I have heard that they're overpriced, but FH got what he wanted for the price he wanted to pay, so...it worked for us.

PS...this was the Mississauga location.

My dad an stepmother went there a couple of years ago and they found the salespeople were very rude telling her that she didnt want the type of ring she wanted and were pushing rings on her that she didn't want.

they ended up going to a jeweller that we know through my FFIL and they got the exact ring she wanted with great diamonds for a better price and she loves the ring that the people at spence told her she didnt want and wouldnt like!

My MOH went into Spence with her man. They looked around and found something that she liked. According to the tag to have it made to the exact specifications on the tag - it was within their budget. Her man went into the office with the sales person to discuss the ring (they would not let her join them) When her man came back out he told her that they had tried to "up sell" him. Telling him that he needed to buy bigger then what she had selected. The final number that the sales person came up with was much out of their budget.

I would suggest going to get an exact idea as to what you want but as I recall yoiu mentioned already having found a set you liked. I have had no personal no experience with them.

I really really really wanted to get my ring at spence. for years i decided that when I was to get engaged me and my FH would go there and look. and we did. 3 or 4 times. Everyone was really nice, and their diamonds look beautiful. I loved the store and how it looked and all that. They had HUNDREDS of rings and we went over them countless times trying to find the one that was me... all to no avail. I could not find a single ring I loved. I found one I like, it would do, but i did not love it. they were all to modern and predictable for me. or just ugly and outdated. I eventually found my dream ring, a hearts on fire one that cost way more than we could afford so we ended up with an estate ring. its very pretty. and i do love it, and no one else has one like it for sure. FH keeps saying one day (when I am making all the money) he will go buy the Hearts on Fire for me..... but i digress.

So i dont have much feed back for Spence itself except that I wish I could have bought my ring there and will probably return there some other time to get other jewelry. their prices are not the cheapest in town but I am willing to pay it for percieved quality. with a show room like that they have my vote!

I am anti-Spence. They screwed up multiple times with my e-ring and when I submitted a complaint to their Head Office, no one responded.

I bought my w-ring and DH's ring elsewhere.

And Spence is overpriced!

I found a nice set at Spence diamond in Toronto. I'm wondering if anyone had any experience with them. How was the service? Did the rings come out the way you wanted? Did it take long?
