Cardio is great for shedding fat, but adding weights into your workout will help even more. Building muscle boosts your metabolism so you burn more calories when you aren't even doing anything. Plus, if you shed a bit of fat off, your muscle will show better, making you look toned. However, by starting weight lifting, you may see a rise on the scale from the muscle you build....but it doesn't mean you are getting "fatter". Go by how your clothes feel and how you see yourself in the mirror. You really can't trust the scales!:hehe:

RE: a question for workouts

Pilates is great for toning many parts of the body...it mainly focuses on abs, legs and butt...it also stretches your back a bit, so you can appear more taller and get better posture...it's a great workout..I am doing it now, in fact..for toning arms and chest, weights are always great..fh has a Bowflex machine, and he's been working out on it, and it's making his arm muscles pop out and say 'hello'..lol...it's also give his back a great form..

Hope that helps!!!

RE: a question for workouts

Cardio will definitely help but add strength training to your workout as well. It helps build up your metabolism and will help tone and burn fat.

RE: a question for workouts

Aerobics being a cardio activity will help to burn off those extra pounds you say you have. Cardio burns fat, but to tone you need to do some type of resistance training. Whether it be with weights or whatever, some form of resistance. Seeing as you are already basically where you want to be, why not try yoga or pilates? I don't have much information to give regarding these types of excercises, but there are many websites out there that I am sure give you basic moves and such. Hope I helped somewhat!!!

a question for workouts

there are some aerobrics(sp) classes starting up soon here where you "pay as you go" for $7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays night (1 hour).

but my question is, i want to tone up and i'm not overweight but i want to maintain my weight although i am still trying to go back to my weight before i got sick-i was 117 now 125 wich is not bad at all, but there is some really soft spots(prolly from having 2 kids)so will aerobrics help at all?
