What I read kind of scared me away. I would highly recommend you really do your research before making any decision. Not saying it's not a good one to make, just that it wasn't right for me... it's really a personal choice.

RE: Anyone on have an IUD?

I have had mirena for 2.5 years now and love it. Like the other girls said, a little discomfort having it inserted but thats it...No worries, no remembering to take a pill or all the side effects that come along with it. I do not even have a period any longer. It's good for up to 5 years.

This is from www.HealthyOntario.com-Mirena
This is a soft, flexible T-shaped contraceptive (birth control) device that is placed inside the uterus (intrauterine device or IUD). The medication is continuously released over a period of 5 years to prevent pregnancy. Levonorgestrel is a progestin, which is a hormone produced by the ovaries. This medication prevents the lining of the uterus (endometrium) from building up, making it very difficult for an egg to be implanted. It also changes the cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to swim through the cervix.
The best thing to do is to talk to your Doctor. I do know that they recommend this form of bc for women who have had children already (most likley because they have to open your cervix and that may be harder in a women who has not given birth). Your Doctor will tell you everything and let you know if this is the right type of bc for you.

RE: Anyone on have an IUD?

I have a question...is an IUD like the pill? My periods are about 3-4 days in duration, and I've only had 4 in the past 1.5 years. Can't beat that, IMO.

RE: Anyone on have an IUD?

I had one for 2 years. I had really bad cramping and heavy periods every month the entire time I had it. I was so happy to have it removed once we started TTC.

Good birth control though...I liked that I never had to think about it.

RE: Anyone on have an IUD?

I had one in and loved it. I didnt have any discomfort with it, the only thing was when the Dr. put it in, there was a little bit of a pinch, but it wasn't so bad. In my case, my periods became shorter, but I had more cramping than usual. I only took it out to get pregnant, and would have gotten another one put in, but DH had a vasectomy so I don't need it.

Anyone on have an IUD?

I've been on the pill for about 8 years now and have always seemed to have a low sex drive. I've heard people say that the pill has affected their sex drives so I decided to go off the pill about 2 months ago and sure enough I have a sex drive that I never new existed in me! Since we aren't ready to start trying to concieve just yet I was thinking about trying an IUD. I don't know anyone that is using one so I'm wondering if any of you have one or have tried one?
