Please tell me, what was your experience with the Brazilian? Never have gone...was thinking about it.
I was the same as you, but finally bit the bullet last month. Honestly, it wasn't that bad, and I did the full 'californian' wax. I really thought it was going to be much worse, and thought oh is that it? when it was over. Mine lasted about 2 weeks tops. I wanted to try it before I do it for the honeymoon. I plan on going again this week (she recommends every 4 weeks.. which could get costly if you want to keep it up). I loved it, as did FH, while it lasted.. Lucky for me, we're doing long distance, so I didn't see him while I was, umm, growing it out.. Usually I always shave.. I doubt I'll be able to keep that up once we move in together, lol. But as a nice surprise for both you and him, I'd definitely try it!

RE: Waxing?
klempey (6/22/2008)
OK...this topic just scares me in general. Please tell me, what was your experience with the Brazilian? Never have gone...was thinking about it.
I'll be honest, it hurt like a ***! But, short term pain.... FH loved it and keeps asking when I'll do it again. He been waiting a few years! I'll prob do it for the wedding, but maybe not totally bare down there this time. I'll probably leave a "landing strip" :P

RE: Waxing?

I've been waxing my legs myself for years.
I usually use the Andrea wax strips - super quick and easy and no mess. Back of the legs was a little awkward tho!
Tried bikini once, ouch! :pinch: Way too awkward. Plus, they usually ask you to pull some of the skin taut, so you'd need way more hands to do that PLUS pull the strip!

Places I've gone to have bikini for ~$25, french bikini (little off the top too) ~$35 and brazilian... I forget, was a while ago!
Tell me why I can somehow see you doing this Danica :D
As a professional, I highly reccomend that if you are going to wax yourself, start with your legs, doing small strips at a time. DO NOT do your bikini yourself!! when I was taught how to do it, we had the client help to pull the skin taut, so you have 3 hands holding skin and one of yours to pull! I've seen women come in and have literally taken strips of skin off. Go to a professional, trust me :) Its a matter of either having a nice smooth bikini line and having skin ripped off

RE: Waxing?

Thanks ladies! It would have been fine if I didnt have to go over the same place time and time again. I ended up bruised and rashy! Shop around and look for better prices.

It usually lasts a couple of weeks. I stopped getting my lower legs (calves) waxed, because my hair grows too fast, but I still get my upper legs/brazilian done, since the hair grows slower and it's not showing as much (some of it not at all :P)

Mind you, it also hasn't been warm enough for summer clothes here yet. Boo to cold Ottawa weather :(

RE: Waxing?
sbru
OK.. as far as professionally getting waxed, how much does it cost on average? ... and how long does it last???
The cost depends on what body part you are having done.

Where I live (average price)

eyebrows/upper lip 10$

underarm 15-20

full leg 40 half leg 25

bikini 15 -20

brazilian 40

I find that I am totally smooth for maybe 2 weeks and then it slowly starts to come back in. Ok, I admit, there's a lot of user error involved (ie: I suck :P) but I decided it was best left to professionals. They know what they're doing, have better technique and better products. She said she shaves even though she waxes, so she told me I could have it, because she shaves everyday anyways.

Me I just can't handle shaving every day.. sometimes I forget and then I put a pair of shorts on and go out the door and next thing I know I'm like TURN AROUND...!! lol.

OK.. as far as professionally getting waxed, how much does it cost on average? ... and how long does it last???

RE: Waxing?

I've tried a couple of at-home ones, and they were all useless.
