It's just that I wear zero makeup on a daily basis (mascara and lip gloss when I go out), so I do have a super hard time justifying the cost.
However, I do want to go and get that brush deal they've got on now ($58 for 5 brushes), and now that I've purchased some powder and stuff, I can accept that cost for decent brushes.
And, I think after the wedding is over (and we're no longer paying for it), I'm going to go and check out that skin care line!

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

I've heard Mary Kay is really good, I was speaking to a representative a few months ago...maybe I should go look for her card.

And the Body Shop, now that it's been brought up, is really good. I have purchased some brushes and makeup there before, maybe I'll see if they've got a spot open the day of the wedding. Although I think my morning is jam packed already.

Annnddd-I also called the MAC store in St Vital Mall here in Winnipeg-it's an actual store, not a kiosk in the Bay or anything, and they charge $55 for a makeup session, and this does NOT include any product. At least in the Polo Park Bay kiosk, you get the cost in makeup.

Thanks again for all the input. I was reading a post about 'Bride Brain' just now, and it's funny, I started thinking about makeup, and couldn't think of any other place but MAC and Shoppers/Walmart. It's like one thing takes hold in my head, and all of a sudden there's no room for any other thought!!!

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?
TooExcited (7/22/2008)
I was just in a wedding party the other weekend, and the lady from Mac came to the house in the morning to do our make-up. she works in the Pickering Town Centre, you could always ask her if she could come to your house and do it. They also watch the expiration dates on all their products.

Body Shop - using more and more of their stuff and a bit cheaper than Mary Kay.. they also do make up for weddings / special occassions.. if you buy products then their services are free

Sears makeup counter - sorry I have to avoid that area as all the mixture of perfumes give me a migraine.

I went professional for our make up on my wedding day and worth it! it looked awesome, natural and lasted all day.. and its amazing what they can hide or enhance..

If you don't plan on using the stuff why spent that kind of money on it..

Remember - you get what you pay for

If you go into Walmart or other retail store and buy their stuff whats the guarantee it has been sitting around for awhile?

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

I was just in a wedding party the other weekend, and the lady from Mac came to the house in the morning to do our make-up. she works in the Pickering Town Centre, you could always ask her if she could come to your house and do it. You can choose from so many colours and their new mineral foundation is awesome. It's a relief to know I don't have to spend $400+ to look good on the big day!

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

I did my make up for my engagement party with Clinique. They only expect that you'll purchase two products. So you could totally get away with spending like $50.

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

I would suggest finding a Mary Kay consultant.

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

I think The Body Shop does consultations, and you aren't obligated to buy anything.

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

If you're just wanting to get a pro to do your make up on the wedding day, you can definitely get it done cheaper. If you want to buy fancy, (good quality), luxurious stuff and do it yourself, you can scrimp and save in so many ways....

I now buy Make Up Forever foundation for about $45. It lasts me probably 8 months. (I'm not a huge make up gal). I did my own wedding day make up (with help on my eyes from my Sister/MOH), and the only things I bought special were Revelon eye shadow special anti-creasing kit with like 6 brown-ish shades, and Cover Girl Lash Exact Mascara:

Everything else I already used every day. And I looked pretty freaking hawt ;)

RE: Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

I went with Caryl Baker Visage. Their line of makeup is pretty pricey too, you don't need to buy all the products that they use on you. I just bought the compact, lipliner, lipstick and eyeliner for touch-ups. It came to $126. I could have done without the eyeliner and bought a cheaper version. If you really want to save money just buy the products that you think you really need to do touch-ups for your day!

Where to get relatively inexpensive makeup?

So, I just went for a consultation at MAC, and the makeup really looks so awesome...I mean, I look HOT! :w00t:

However, when the makeup artist tallied up the total for all the product she had used, the total was $436!!! It's a good thing I was still sitting down. An even better thing FH was sitting down when I told him!

With our budget, there really is no way I can justify spending that amount on something I really won't use too often. And I tried to book another consultation on the wedding day, but there were no openings.

So, now I am on the hunt for cheaper and perhaps not AS good, but still decent quality, makeup.

Can anyone suggest anything???
