I am doing the mail merge also, but I am doing it directly on the envelopes not labels:D

I hand wrote 100 and didn't find it too bad. I did a few each night while I watched TV. However, we were all for sticker labels if need be. As someone stated, do you remember how one invite ever sent to you was addressed? Probably not. I cant see anyone having a problem with this.

I'm writing out invites by hand right now (taking a break). I've only done about 15 of 80 and my hand is so cramped it may never recover. Labels are sounding like a good idea.

Can we just print (using the computer) our envelopes or is this too hard?
How do you use Word to do address labels.. i think that is a great idea!

Be careful with the clear labels - they can pick up every bit of flying dust and hair before you stick them down. Also, they don'y go perfectly clear - they look sort of like scotch tape...

We were going to use labels but decided to print the addresses right on the envelope with the computer. I think it looks better. My printin/cursve is good (primary teacher) but I still think typed is nicer.

I printed mine of clear labels as well! Those magazines definitely need to be updated in regards to etiquette! Who these days has time to sit and hand-write 300+ addresses? You know what go with the clear labels...I did using Mono Serif or something like that and they look great!! My FH even did his own version of his "manly" font...LOL he used..Arial and italized it and centred it!! hehehehe (read my post about is FH helping out...you'll see what I mean when I say "manly"!):cool:

I hardly think people will focus at what is written and how it is written on the front of the envelope anyways...everyone is dying to open the invitation to see what it looks like!!:w00t:

Actually, the invitations I'm ordering have my return address printed (laser thermograph) directly on the envelopes. :cool:

I just printed the addresses right onto the envelopes! :D I like the way they look! They match the invitation inside.

I am confused, I thought that it owuld be ok to print lables for the invites, but do you have to hand write the inner envelopes? Both of my cousins did that, I think I know that they hand wrote the inner envelopes,

My hand writing looks like cat scratches but my FMIL has offered to address my invitations for me. Luckily for her there will only be about 40 invitations.

Does the same thing go for save the date cards and thank yous as well?

oh my goodness, i can't honestly imagine anyone giving a turd one way or the eother. so don't sweat it. i cant even remember if any invitation i ever got was handwritten or typed. i'm typing out mine!!! I think many people do now anyway. maybe that notion is a little outdated? it might be a nice touch, but hardly necessary. i say spend money and time where it will be more appreciated!

If you were to do everything 'by the book' and 'followed the rules' then yes, it should be handwritten.

But, I'm sure you aren't doing everything as ms. Emily Post has suggested..so really, it will look fine.

I bet hardly anyone will noticed if you hand wrote it or had it on a clear label.

Don't forget though to make sure the postal code is in a more simple typewriter font as the fancy fonts might effect the sorting process with Canda Post.

clear labels is the way tto go!

Dont even stress about that, cause honestly I dont think there is a right or wrong way!

If if there was a RIGHT way (which is handwriting) haha, too DAMN BAD :)

Like M said, the labels are so much more easier to do. If you pick a nice font on the PC, its gonna look great!

I was having the same problem AlanaBanana! Then it occured to me... think back to all of the invitations to weddings you have been to. Do you remember if they were hand written or if there were labels on them? I can't! And neither will any of your guests in about 2 weeks. Spare yourself some time and print them off! Just my thought....

Oh, thank goodness!

I read an etiquette column that used the "t"-word, and stated that labels were impersonal and shouldn't be used on invitations... hire a calligrapher instead... and I was like are you kidding me???

I feel so much better now. :D

Personally I think a nice font and clear lables are
a nice touch and it looks neater than any writing I have
seen...ofcourse if you only have a small amount of
invitations and your caligraphy is good then that would
be good as well...for me I'm sticking with the good ole
ink jet :D my friend lately!

I am a lover of etiquette but it wouldn't matter to me one way or the other if the address was printed or hand written.

The only time I even noticed the address was when I had to write it out on the thank you card envelope at a shower to "help out the bride." Then I felt like I was giving a gift AND thanking myself for doing so. :unsure:

I will be hand writing mine but only because I have been practicing calligraphy and there are only about 25 invites. :)

I'll be using the clear labels as well, my handwriting isn't that great, plus it'll get done alot faster. I did the same things with my shower invites. I don't think people are going to receive your invites and go.."Oh my God!! She didn't handwrite them!" I think some of these so called etiquette rules really need to be updated!

I addressed every single one of the 100 invites. I dunno... took me forever to do but I did like 20/day for a work week and it was done.

I honestly don't think my guests care that much but I did...

Alana,

I'm doing exactly what you want to do.

1. typing labels will be faster than handwriting

2. my hands wont get so cramped typing

3. It's legible

4. I've received many invites like this .. so people are doing it.

5. My attitude is .. Miss Manners is there for the important things.. but something as minor as this shouldnt cause an outcry from the masses ... maybe I'm wrong, but .. I'm doing it. Be my cohort in crime with me :D

Alanna - I am thinking of doing the same thing you are with the labels. My matron of honour also did it three years ago when she married. My handwriting is also so sloppy I would not dream of addressing them all myself.

Quoting Emily Post however: Labels. Do not use labels to address wedding invitations envelopes, even when inviting hundreds of guests. Instaed, plan ahead and take time to handwrite every envelope, so that it is in keeping with the personal tone of the wedding.

Ooooopppps! Maybe a change of plans....GGGGGRRRRRR!

Honestly, that is EXACTLY what I'm doing. I went to Staples and bought the clear labels for my inkjet, I used Microsoft word to create a mail merge for labels and I chose a script text and I think it looks EXTREMELY elegant.

Honestly, who of your guests is going to come back to you and be insulted or say ANYTHING if you don't hand write the addresses? No one will even think twice about it, I garuntee it!

Hi ladies! :)

I read in a bridal magazine that wedding invitations are supposed to be addressed by hand.

My problem is that I have awful handwriting (I blame years of mad-scribbling notes in class at university), and it only gets worse the more I write. A calligrapher isn't in my budget.

Would it be so bad to print my guests' names and addresses on clear labels, and just stick the labels on the invitations? It would save me a big headache. (Also I would feel sure that the envelopes would reach their destination because the printing would be legible!:D)

What are you ladies doing?
