grooms duties: smile and nod and say "yes dear" and hand the credit card over to the cashier with a smile.

frustrating, yes!

i want input and feedback from my groom. its his wedding too and i want to know what he wants. do you hate this? do you love it? do you have an opinion at all? hellooooooo is anybody in there!!??? instead all i get is the "grooms duties" above.

but put him to work on a home improvement project he wants to do "just in case" someone actually comes to our house around the wedding time and he's a very busy beaver full of ideas and opinions.

yeah, he has no opinion on do you want to spend the money on this for the wedding or do you hate this color or not, but he's full of ideas about wanting to build a bedroom in the basement "just in case" we get an out of town guest staying with us. ummm, i think they'd rather sleep on the couch than a cold damp basement that stinks like dog and mildew, lol.

wedding day i'm trying to keep simple as possible. i emptied a closet in our bedroom to be the designated wedding stuff spot. everything to do with the wedding goes there. everything that has to go to the hall together, everything sorted and labelled with where it goes since we won't be able to be there to oversee everything. then whoever is taking it to the hall just has to empty the closet and take everything and not hunt around for anything. everything that has to go with us (clothes, rings, flowergirls stuff, flowers, etc) all together in a second designated location. wedding day i give him a list of things he has to be in charge of. spelled out nice and simple. and a list for the volunteer decorators of what is for where. and the most important things like the rings i'll probably look after myself because i'm sure he'll be too excited to even think strait, lol.

i have a checklist for me, one for him, one for the decorators, one for what goes to the hall, you name it

Someone asked about what a day of coordinator does... here's the list:

Prior to Day Of:

· Meet with the couple minimum of one month prior to the wedding to confirm contracts, deadlines, special arrangements, etc.

· Assistance with logistical/itinerary planning

· Answering any questions/concerns via phone/email concerning day of scheduling, responsibilities, etc.

· Assistance with the Rehearsal at the couple’s request (please note that in the case of churches most clergy prefer to host this themselves without the assistance of the wedding planner).

Day of Responsibilities:

· Pick up of any necessary items the night before the wedding (programs, unity candles, registry pen, envelope box, guest book, favours, cake knife and server, seating list & diagram, place cards, wine glasses, etc).

· Pinning of boutonnieres and corsages to appropriate people

· Assisting bridesmaids, flower girls, and ring bearers with how to walk down the aisle and carry flowers

· Give the bridal party a once over before heading down the aisle with a lint brush, comb, etc.

· Straighten the brides veil, fluffing the train and ease any last minute worries before you walk down the aisle

* Accompany the bridal party for photos

· Have a prepared list (in consultation with the Bride & Groom) of photos desired and will keep track to make sure you have everything you want

· Putting toiletry baskets in the washrooms (if the couple uses them/or wants them)

· Review of the reception room prior to guests arrival checking table set-up, linen condition, centrepieces, etc

· Liasing with any and all other vendors to make sure their contracts are fulfilled and timely (will require copies of all contracts prior to the wedding)

· Make sure all accessories are set up correctly as per your floor plan

· Cue the DJ/MC according to the schedule

· Maintain point of contact with the Banquet Hall/Catering Manager to make sure the meal is exactly to order or better

* Other duties deemed necessary to the couple ~ no detail is too large or too small.

My FH knows his duty is to show up lol .. we joke about it all the time .... I plan .. he shows up..otherwise, things will be forgotten!!! LMAO

Here is a great website for the groom to be. I pointed it out to my FH and it lets him know things he can do. Its funny though because it really talks to the guys on their own level ie their slogan is
we make you look good. or at least not dumb. And the first line says :

I don't know what a groom is suppose to do other than show up with the rings looking all 'purdied up'. :hehe:

But my FH is doing the food so he'll be directing his friends who we hired to cook. That's a lot of work so I don't expect him to do much else.

I was thinking of this. But other than the two things that need to be remembered (rings and paper) what else does a wedding DAY coordinator do? I'm not paying someone just to remember rings and paper...

Maybe it would be a good idea, a groom baby sitter essentially...FH told our BM at his wedding that to keep the rose bouts fresh before the wedding they should put them in the freezer!!!!!!!!!!! SO their flowers were half dead for the wedding....

I do have a friend who is sorta helping me, but the day of stuff will be more difficult as she has a 4 year old and 2 year old...

^^ good advice! I didn't even know that you could hire a day co-ordinator, pretty cool. But give him the option of either having to pay for someone's help.... or if he's willing to do it himself for free! I'm sure he'll make the right choice :)

We avoided this by hiring a day of co-ordinator to help us through the day! Totally worth it IMHO, suggest this to FH and see if he either a.) wants to pick up the slack OR b.) wants to pick up the tab! :)

Hi Ladies and grooms!

I have somewhat of a rant, but also a question. FH has been amazing for planning the big things: the location, date, cake, invitations, but now that I'm asking him about things like what he has to do on teh wedding day he gets furious because I expect him to do stuff the day of. Things like ensure that the rings and the papers get there. I told him thats why he has groomsmen, to support him. His response was that he didn't have to do that for his best frined who got married last September. And I told him, yeah, because I did it. I was following the bride around helping her out and SHE sent me over to remind the groom and make sure he had the things because in all honesty FH was a LOUSY Best Man.

So now, when it comes to our wedding, he expects the same thing is going to happen for our wedding! Over my dead body! I'm not playing stage manager that day because I'm going to be the Leading Lady!!!!

I could go on about the things he said that just made me want to choke him, but instead, ladies adn Grooms on the board, do you have a list of responsibilities of the groom for planning and for the day of the wedding? It could REALLY help!
