Bridal Shower? Stag and Doe? Jack and Jill? Why?!?

I don't get the point of all these parties really. Engagement party...ok I could see having a party to celebrate the engagement. Anyone likes a good reason to party.

Bridal shower..to have a get-together with my friends, ok sure. Only women invited to the wedding, yes or no? Why register for gifts? Aren't they going to just be giving me another gift for my wedding too? That's a bit much to ask, isn't it? And yes, I'm not asking for gifts but you know they are going to buy one at both!

I've read that a Stag and Doe is basically a fundraiser under the guise of a party. Why would I have a fundraiser for my wedding? Again, it feels like hitting up family twice for the same event. I don't see any other point to this! Isn't the big get together to celebrate this thing the wedding itself?!?

Sorry if I'm offending or venting here. I just don't quite get all these parties. I have friends asking about them, what I'm having. I have no clue! I'm all for parties but I don't want to have anything that will make people get us stuff! We are considering not even registering for gifts the wedding itself because we don't need anything (other than money :P)

I know this shouldn't stress me, but it is. Probably because I've been so good lately with getting stuff done that my mind needed something to stress me about on this wedding.

My Shower!

Here you go ladies!

Bombonnieres!

Surprise!

Prezzies!

The presents never ended!

The Buffet table (half of it)

Place cards:

Cookies!

My Apron Guestbook!

My Sweet Hat:

And Finally... the Cake!

Hope you guys like the pics! There were approx 68 people and we had a great time filled with good food and fun. Here are a few pics. I didn't post guest pics since some people might be opposed to having their pics on the internet.

Just 1 of 3 sweet tables-the ladies did a lot of baking.

I loved my cake but hardly anyone touched it because of all the other food. Our class has seriously, about 100 people...(which is REALLY too many people). We got to talk about communication today. Don't you think if we didn't know how to communicate we wouldn't be getting married? I can understand making people who are quick to wed do this, but we've been together for 7 years, since I was 16, and have been through some really tough times together. So we have to go to these classes to talk about stupid things that are pointless!!! Well, at least they served wine and cheese.

Sorry...this is venting.

MOH Gifts - Sincerely stumped!!!!!

Ladies, I AM BEGGING! My knee's were shaking SO bad (and I even knew about the shower before hand lol just don't tell my sister!)

I walked in and was immediately in shock! There were 67 ladies that attended, plus my bridal party. I can't wait for the shower coming up on the 18th. I was a little disappointed that my sisters are giving me stuff I chose with my mom at the Mikasa warehouse sale, but this makes up for it. Now I have to resist the urge to keep checking it. This was to symbolize one of the first times we met (we were both frosh leaders at University - one of the days is a Fair Day with blow up games and rides, obstacle courses and climbing walls, etc)
However - all those require lots of money - permits to set up etc...

So we've now decided to have a great big family picnic up in Gatineau park with silly games like potatoes sack races, spoon/egg races, a piñata, three legged race, etc... I think it should be a lot of fun and a much better way for everyone to mingle before the big day. Plus it a fun way for the kids to have fun - not so boring as the ceremony etc...

What do you guys think? And do you have suggestions for games etc...?

Engagement Party invites

Hi everyone,

I need a little advice....

I'm making my invites to my engagement party this weekend with one of my BM's.

I already have a mock up of what I want to make, but my question is how do I include our registry information?

Do I write it on the invite? I'm having a hard time with this cause I don't want people to think that I expect a gift but I also want to provide the information so that if they choose to get something they know where to go.

I was thinking of writing it on the bottom of the backside of the invite but I'm afraid that it will either go unnoticed or look really weird.

What did you guys do?

registering

We are getting married January 3rd 2009, I am wondering when is a good time to go do your registery.

Pedicures and Manicures

I am looking for a place to take my bridesmaids for a pedicure and manicure. My aunt has come up to visit and even FH's mom and sister are on their way up too! I am sitting here in my jeans and a scruffy old t shirt and trying to figure out what to wear.
