I agree you have to know your crowd.. but you also have to remember that not everyone is into gambling or raffles or maybe even dancing for that matter. We are having several different things at ours.. a little bit of everything. As far as tickets go..start from your wedding guest list..and go from there. We have 200 tickets printed up and divided them into packs of 25. The whole wedding party got a pack each including the parents. Offer the tickets at the door aswell.. some people prefer to have that option. The more the merrier and think about it as one BIG party. Invites as many people as you think your hall can hold. Not everyone will be able to make it.. but hey.. maybe they will atleast by a ticket. Good luck!!

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries

Do you have a friend or family with a big house or yard? Instead of renting a hall you could do and outside afternoon or evening stag & Doe. Thats what friends of our family are doing....and they are hosting it for us. So we are not putting any money up at all. Whatever money is made will be ours. I'm surprised someone in your Bridal party would not organize it...if they all pitched in together it does not have to be expensive at all. Just depends what you want.:w00t:

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries
AlanaBanana (4/7/2006)

jboroch (4/6/2006)
i'm still debating on the jack and jill
i found a hall (huge) for 400$ but i'm so afraid people wont buy the tickets .. how are you doing it? are you telling people about it and asking them to buy a ticket?

ill feel stupid telling them they are invited to a party, but its 10$

i dunnooooooo
LOL... generally, when you tell people it's a social/J&J/S&D they know it's a party they're paying to get into.
$400 is a great price for a hall! At all times there were at least 150 people there. I think the trick is getting people to stay. I have been to many that were so lame early on that people walked in, bought a drink drank it and slipped out. We had an awesome dj and some really fun games that made people come in and stay. we made almost 4000 clear. we sold booze we bought and made money off of it too. like alana's hall ours included 2 bartenders, cups, and mix. worry free. I also forced:D my coworkers and family to come early. I figured if i had 30 or so people there early than as people trickled in then it would seem busy from the start. I did not need to force anyone tho cause we were packed by 810 pm. The people running the hall estimated 300 ppl made an apearance and at least 150-175 stayed from around 830-1230 at night.

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries

Click here for a link to SnappySara's thread about her S&D. :)

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries

Good luck ladies with your Socials/S&D's. I wish we would have done one-the $$ would have come in handy. But FH was against having one-they aren't really done much here where we're living. They were done often where I was raised-so I would have felt comfortable putting one on there. Back home they advertise them in the newspaper. They can be lots of fun-sometimes more fun that the wedding. Give your tickets to your WP, your parents, FIL's and have them sell!! SnappySara just had a successful S&D-you should check the archives for her review of her S&D. She made lots of $$ too and they had some great ideas. Good Luck!

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries
jboroch (4/6/2006)
i'm still debating on the jack and jill
i found a hall (huge) for 400$ but i'm so afraid people wont buy the tickets .. how are you doing it? are you telling people about it and asking them to buy a ticket?

ill feel stupid telling them they are invited to a party, but its 10$

i dunnooooooo
LOL... generally, when you tell people it's a social/J&J/S&D they know it's a party they're paying to get into.
$400 is a great price for a hall! We don't even have to know the couple getting married, and we'll buy tickets and go!

Also, Manitoba wedding socials are about reciprocity. It's an unwritten rule that when someone offers you social tickets, and you're more than a casual acquaintance of the bride and/or groom, you buy tickets. If the person offering tickets bought tickets off you for your own/ your sister's/ your friend's/ your cousin's wedding social, you buy tickets. Even if you have no intention of attending, you buy tickets. My dad will sell 30 tickets at work just to people he's bought social tickets from... always reciprocity. :D

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries
AlanaBanana (4/6/2006)
Hi! :)
So selling 200 tickets will let me break even on my expenses. Jack and Jills can be very good money raisers but it is all in knowing your crowd.

You are going to want to do things you know people are going to be interested in. Put out a few feelers out and get some opinions.

If your crowd is a big beer drinking crowd then go with that... If you have a kind of conservative crowd you don't want things that are over the top. But from my exeprience a Naughty Basket always does well...fill it with flavor oils, condoms, a mask, handcuffs, feathers and stuff like that...have fun with it! It doesn't have to be dirty to be naughty. It can be a lot of fun and interesting to see who buys tickets for the naughty basket...lol

I don't know if I answered your question or not but I hope I have helped in some way!

Jacqs

RE: Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries

Hi! :)

$1500 really isn't that much to spend on a Stag & Doe (or social, or whatever you wanna call it).

I'm spending $900 on the hall (which includes my corkage, mix, cups and garnish, set-up, strike, and security), $350 on the DJ, and probably $750 on prizes and a Texas mickey. That's $2000, and I haven't even bought the booze yet!

BUT if you do it right, you make your money back and then some. For example, my social tickets are $10 per person. So selling 200 tickets will let me break even on my expenses. We've done the math, and found that if we sell 300 tickets and have 300 attend, and each guest buys $10 in silent auction tickets and 3 drinks, we'll make $4900 net profit. This is very do-able, seeing as we'll likely sell 400 tickets and most guests will buy more than 3 drinks and 1/2 will spend $20 or more on silent auction.

Obviously, it's alot of work to pull off, but it's fun and worth it in the end.

It isn't common in Manitoba, but I've heard of other brides having fund-raising games at their wedding socials... I hope you'll get some great ideas here!

Best of luck! :)

Stag & Doe / Jack & Jill Woes and Worries

BAH!My MOH Is WONDERFUL, and she is really doing a lot of work to make my wedding wonderful.

She REALLY wants us to have a Stag & Doe, and she has some FANTASTIC ideas, and I have been swept up in her ideas everytime we talk about it, but as soon as I walk away I'm filled with all of these worries and concerns...

The prices she's quoting me are a LOT more than I was REALLY hoping to spend...
