plastic tablecloth for ceiling/wall decor etc

So, I've heard from a few of you that you can use plastic table cloth material for ceiling decor. I have pretty ugly walls at my hall...could I use this for draping or do you have any another suggestion?

Tribute to our stillborn son

I have been battling cancer for 3 years (actually just found out i'm in remission), and in the middle of it all, we found out we were pregnant. It was a shock and miracle, as i was told i would probably never conceive. Anyways, great pregnancy, but 10 days before he was due, our son was stillborn. It gets worse ... we had postponed the wedding, and set a new date. Unfortunately, we lost our son on July. 19, 2007, and our new date was set for July.19, 2008. We instantly knew it happened for a reason, and are going to embrace it and take the opportunity to do something special for our son. Now i just need to figure out what. i was thinking that during the ceremony (outdoor) we could release one little balloon, and play part of John Lennon's song, Beautiful Boy. That was the song i used to sing while i rubbed my belly. Not sure if the ceremony is the right setting, or if i should do something at the reception.

When we lost Chase, a good friend gave us a beautiful bottle of Scotch, with the most amazing note inside. He said that we should open it one year from the day we lost our son, and toast to him. So, FH wants to do that at the reception.

It is very important to me that we do something. We know people are going to be thinking and wondering if we remember, or if we are ok. We don't want there to be a big hush, or for people to be uncomfortable at all. Help!?

Reception- Displaying Pictures

I am trying to come up with original ways to decorate a round cocktail table, white linens, with pictures of me and the groom at our reception. We are having a beach theme (i.e. lots of shells) and wondered if anyone has any suggestions! Could be different frames, large picture... I am open to any suggetsions. Thanks

So my friend is getting married in 19 days and is freaking out a bit because she still has 31 people unaccounted for. Do you think they are coming.

Everyone has to travel to her wedding at least 8 hours and take off Monday, she's getting married on a Sunday. So do you think they will still show up?

Dinner Menu

Well, with only 7 short weeks until the big day, I am going over every single detail! I need to know if I should add anything to the menu, we have a final meeting this weekend with the venue.

Here is my menu:

Cocktail Hour: Hourdeurvs (sp?), veggies, fruit, ect. (typical stuff)

Dinner: Buffet - Steaks grilled to order, chicken tandori, salmon, woldoff salad, greek salad, ceaser salad, rice pillaf, roasted potatoes, grilled veggies, steamed veggies, buns, all condiments

Dessert: Ice cream bar, with fresh fruit, nuts and chocolate fountain. The wedding cake is a three tier ice cream cake. however were not to concerned about it feeding everyone as we have a HUGE ice cream bar. We (FH and I) will be serving the ice cream instead of having a receiving line.

Drinks: Two bottles of Red and Two bottles of white wine on each table, punch fountain, One bottle sparkling apple juice for every table. Then a Cash Bar.

Let me know if you think I missed anything

What to do with money box/envelopes

Hi Ladies,

Here is a question I have not seen posted....what will you do with the money/envelopes after the receiving line? I have heard of a few different options (have someone take care of it all night, have someone bring it home and put it in a safe, lock it in a safe on site of the reception?) but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas??

Just wondering if anyone has any pics of fantasy farm they could send my way? I'm living in Montreal but trying to find a venue in the Toronto area, and FF has basically only Mon-Thurs appt times available to view there venue. This doesn't work for my fiance or me as we both work Mon-Fri. I'd really like to see what the banquet halls look like inside as there website shows mainly outside photos.

I was wondering where did everyone or where does everyone think they are staying the night of their wedding. I need help finding a hotel with a very nice, romantic room for our wedding night. I know we will still have our honeymoon and all, but we really want a nice room for our wedding night. We are looking for a King Size, with jacuzzi, fireplace would be the kicker!

We are looking for somewhere around the airport, mississauga, etobicoke, or vaughn.

Hey Girls,

So....(regrettably, in hindsight) we have one of those halls where you buy the room, chairs, and table and thats it. Because of that, we're supplying our own bar. All the alcohol has been paid for...we managed to figure that out with the help of the LCBO. But now we're at a bit of a loss for how much we get of each kind of pop and juice. I know I could search in past posts and do the math.....but dudes, my wedding is in 9 days and I'se gots no time for that. LOL Sorry for the laziness.

Ok..so the wedding is total, 75 people.
We're providing:
Coke
Diet Coke
Sprite
Diet Sprite
Ginger Ale
Club Soda
Tonic Water
Ice Tea
Orange Juice
Cran-Raspberry Juice.

H girls,

Anyone know of any wineries that will allow ceremonies?

I'm more than happy to rent chairs and hire someone to set up/take down chairs etc so am looking for any suggestions on wineries that will allow such a thing. Any thoughts?

I've checked out the Riverbend Inn which is absolutely stunning however I'm not overly impressed with their service so we're leaning towards Pillar and Post where they have been extremely organized and so great.

The trouble is I really want a vineyard ceremony setting but it seems that the only wineries that hold ceremonies are ones that require you to have your reception there as well (or else won't book ceremonies until 2 months before your wedding date to keep dates open for couples looking for ceremony and location).

Help if you can!

My fiance and i are planning an thanksgiving 2008 wedding and have been talking with a few venues. Our main problem is that we are planning this out of province so we have to make our decisions via email and pictures. A few of the venues we are considering are the hilton fallsview, the brock plaza(rainbow room) and the sheraton fallsview(pretty much in that order of pref). If anyone has any experience with any of these venues feedback would be appreciated.

FH and I are looking into doing a donation to the CCS instead of getting our guests favours. In memory of my Uncle Mark(who passed away last year from colon cancer) and FH's Papa (who passed away 4 years ago from lung cancer)

I was reading the poll topic about the first dance with a twist and it got me thinking about my dance with my son who will be 10 at the wedding time.

Anyone have any fun ideas for songs? I think he would be up to doing something where we could start out all serious and then break into something fun. Then again, it will be a really sweet moment just with any song...

Hotel Reception In Toronto/GTA

Hi Ladies,

The venue search has become rather frustrating for FH and I. All the places we have looked at seem to have something wrong (i.e. too expensive, parents don't like it, or it's not big enough).

We have now opened our options to having our ceremony and reception in a nice hotel in Toronto or the GTA. I'm looking to you ladies for any suggestions about places you've had yours at or been to. We are looking at having around 250-300 people. Some of the possibilities are the Westin Harbour Castle, Royal York and Marriott. I know there are a ton more out there though!

Decorating Large Venue

We are having our wedding reception in a large venue and i am looking for some decor ideas. Although it has very high ceilings and I will probably not be able to decorate all the way to the roof I would like to make it look as good as possible as it almost looks like a large tin shed inside.

Cocktail reception food budget

I'm very early in the planning process but I wanted to see if anybody had some good estimates, or knew of a tool that could help.

We're probably going to end up with 120 guests for drinks and hors d'oeuvres between 8-11 for a cocktail reception and so far I was thinking about $40pp for food...does that seem normal?

Need Help with Centrepiece

I am still struggling with centrepieces. I have seen a lot that I like with a nice -full floral arrangement on top but they all cost $60+. I really like this vase and would like to use it. Here are some samples that the florist played with but I am not wowed by them.The one with the orchids looks to sparse and would be in peoples way and the one with the roses-we would use a different color rose looks to small in terms of amt of flowers. Any suggetions? I am going to buy some floating candles today and see if I can put some kind of floating flower with the candle and nice white stones in that dome like base.

This one had more floating petals in the bottom but fh took them out. The base was also not washed out so you wouldn't actually see that brown at the very bottom

Hi all,

I've been searching and searching for chair covers. The best I can find so far is 3.99/each which includes delivery/setup/return. They are 1.99 if we pick them up/setup/return ourselves which the FH is not that keen on doing, he thinks it would be better to have them do it all. I just can't see spending $4.00 per chair.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look? Or have you set them up yourselves and how hard was it?

Windsor Airforce Club sold

I was just hoping to inform any Windsor couple who may have booked their reception at the Air Force Club in Windsor Ontario that they are being sold and if you booked with them you need to find another hall ASAP.
I just found out April 31th that the caterer who I booked my wedding reception with Ozzie Borrelli of M and B catering was a scam artist and took my deposit and ran. The Air Force club who told me I needed to book with him didn't get a copy of my contract and he ditched them 6 months ago. The Air Force Club wasn't able to inform me as they didn't know I even existed, and on top of him leaving the Air Force club is being sold before my wedding.
I am afraid that there are more people who are out there that aren't going to find out until it is too late. I was able to find a new hall as it is still 2 months before my wedding, but if I hadn't have called to change a few things I would have never known until I put in my final numbers a few weeks before my wedding.
Please help spread the word and stay away from this caterer as we have since found out he owes money to many people in the Windsor area.
