I was at a wedding where guests had assigned seating, but it was due to different menus, and we all ended up just taking our name cards and sitting next to our choices at the wedding (at our table obviously). I think just letting people know which table is fine, and keep in mind that people often will move around anyways. The way I see it, why make more work for yourself?:P

Giving guests a specific seat at each table.

We gave them a table to sit at and from there they could pick their seat at that table, much easier than giving them a certain table and a certain seat.

I am doing the seating cards where the guests will be told at what table to sit at but once they are there, they can sit in whatever seat they want.

We had to. We had a tight space issue and have to seat the umm..skinnier people in certain seats so the servers could get by. :blush: I blame my DH, he measured the room wrong. :P

That's what we did and it worked really well! There weren't any issues at all!

We assigned tables to people, but let them pick up their place card from our place card table and put it at any seat they choose at their assigned table.

We put a little symbol on each place card which told the servers what meal each guest was getting.

I only assigned tables, not seats. We only had 8 people per table and everyone at a table knew each other, so I felt it would be way too much work to assign actual seats.

Instead of table numbers, we named each table after a tree (Fall theme ;) ) and we listed every guest seated at the table on the table name picture thingy:

We also did reception programs which listed a thank you message to the guests, order of the evening, and a "Who's Who" list explaining everyone's relationship to the bride and/or groom:

I'm just letting people sit wherever they want. Not even assigned tables. We are not having a sit down dinner like most people.. so I don't think its gonna be a huge deal. Fh and I are probably just a little too lazy to make a seating chart.

We did this, just had a table at the front entrance with names and stickers, and had a seating chart. Most people knew what to do

We're just going to have people assigned to a specific table. That's it.

The reason for this is because like some PP's said, most people will end up just switching seats most-likely.. to sit by whoever they decide.

It was like that at my best friend's sisters wedding. They had us at a certain table, but we could sit anywhere.. I still thing their were place cards on the table, actually, come to think of it... BUT everyone ended up moving around to suit their needs anyways.

Even though we have such a small guest list (45-50), I am assigning tables (though not seats), as MY immediate family is all about drama, and they all hate at least ONE of our other guests, so I've gotta keep 'em apart for as long as I can! Gotta love family, eh?!? Maybe I can just assign them ALL to one table......and put that table somewhere far far far AWAY from our wedding! Just one of my fantasies...*sigh*

I am telling people where to sit but the only reason why is because I have a choice of three entree options. The venue has told us that we have to have a way of showing which person is what what for dinner.

We are having a seating chart that tells people what table to sit at, but I wont specify what chair is theirs!

I am going to be assigning seating, only because I have two entree options and this way the servers will know who gets what...I think I am going to color code the place cards.
