| I know what you mean about having a plan for baby. I never really like to give ppl stuff like strollers, cribs, etc because you never know what their style is. lol my mom was telling me the other day that I drank a lot of gripe water as a child... crazy!

| Everyone knows what I give out for baby gifts. I give one of two things to everyone: Either a really soft, cuddly stuffed animal that plays a lullaby or else one of my favorite children's books in collector's hardcover. When I was born my uncle brought me a music box from Switzerland. And an aunt gave me a curious george doll that wound up and played music. It spawned a love of musical oranments and boxes and when I gave my first stuffy that sings the mom raved about how her baby cuddled it and how it was her favorite toy. I've heard similar things from some of the other moms. Now, they could just be being polite, but I know what mine meant to me, so I love giving them. ANd the book thing stems from my love of children's lit. I always give a different one. But the temptation to give "goodnight moon" or pat the bunny is pretty high...

| Oh, so many great ideas here already. I would have to agree, stay away from clothes 0-3 months and receiving blankets. We never used 80% of the receiving blankets we got and our boys outgrew a lot of outfits before they got to wear them too. Also, if you buy diapers, going up a couple sizes is good too. For instance, my 2 month old only went through a couple size one packages of diapers before he was into size 2. So size one didn't last long at all. Things I loved loved loved: - baby swing and bouncy seat. lifesavers. would never have made it without them.
- graco stroller and car seat with base travel system. LOVED IT (but could be more expensive than you want to go)
- Medela breast pump if they are breastfeeding. i know some girls who swore by Avent, but I hated it. Medela is the highest selling brand of pump. the electric is excellent, but manual ones are way cheaper and also work well. for the love of god, never buy a first steps breast pump - OWW!
- diapers diapers diapers and wipes
- home knitted baby blankets - very sweet, my oldest still sleeps with his "lwhite blanket"
- books books books books books
Things I never used or didn't like: - diapervests. just didn't like em. but my babies were both winter babies, so maybe that's why
- baby monitor. never used it. anywhere in the house, you can hear a baby cry lol. TRY TO ESCAPE IT!!!!
- diaper genie. double bagging stinkies in grocery bags before tossing in the garbage worked just as well and was cheaper. besides breastfed babies poo isn't very stinky.
- stuffed animals. We got a zillion. They are all now in garbage bags in the basement waiting to be donated to charity.
I think wicked ideas too are things like hand imprint kits and things like that. Sentimental things that mommy can keep to remember when her baby was teeny tiny. Film is a great idea too! Smart! And the medicine basket. Those are super good ideas.

I bought my cousin some mentally stimulating toys for her baby boy, I know what a crappy mean cousin huh, nothing fun from me. Anyhow I know that the kid isn't getting a lot of visual or gross motor skill development right now because he isn't being stimulated, so I thought I would atleast try to help. Gee can you tell I do daycare?

Not a bad gift at all.

Hmm, as previously posted, I LOVED getting diapers!!!Can never say no to that! Also wipes, powder, etc... Larger sized clothes, My daughter is 3 and I was still using some of the clothes from her shower last fall! Also, if you know the person is formula feeding, find out what brand and give them a case of it. When I found I couldn't breastfeed, some wonderful friends did that for me. Books, educational toys, etc...
