so our shower is coming up next sunday (yay! first one). it's a mixed shower, so fh and i will be there.  it's being hosted by fh's family and will mostly have his family and family friends.  my family is coming too.  my family has managed to get over 50% of our registry already, and they are wondering if they need to wrap everything and bring it over to the shower so we can open the gifts and ooohh and ahhh over them.   do they really need to do that?  we will be moving and the shower location is over an hour away from our new condo (whereas my family home is 15 min away) and they really dont want to lug stuff over just to bring it back at the end of the day.

any thoughts? do all showers involve gift opening?  if you haven't guessed, i havent been to too many showers but most do involve gift opening, games, etc.

thanks,

soph

What I would suggest is .... for your family to simply get you a card and to write something heartwarming in it for your and your FH, and to list the items that they purchased for you inside the card.

When you read the card, you can explain to everyone that these items were purchased, but because of the distance and travel involved today,  the family felt it was better to not have to travel with so many items and risk something breaking... etc.

This way, your family is acknowledged for their gifts at this shower, all the guests from your FH's side will know what your family has bought for your both and none of the gifts will be at risk for damage due to travel.

Hope that helps!!

The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

Making the decision to have a child-it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.

The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom.

To understand a mother's love, bear your own children.

Mother is the name for God on the lips& in the hearts of little children.

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

Mrs. M and loving it!!!

Every shower I have been to has involved opening gifts but I am sure you will have some to unwrap because not everyone is going to drop them off at your new condo. Last post was a good idea....reading the card and saying a thank you out loud. Bottom line weddings and showers don't have strict guidelines that must be followed anymore. Do whatever you feel like doing!

I think that the gift opening is something that no one really enjoys watching. I have found that it is quite boring anyway. So why not just say a general thank you for the gifts at the shower, and then later once you open them on your own time, send each person a thank you note individually.

For my shower, since it was out of town, my guests gave me cards with Home Outfitters "pick-up" slips in them, and a picture of the gift the gift they bought.  This way, nobody had to wrap anything, and I didn't have to pack a toaster in my luggage.
