FH and I are having a little tiff with his parents about our list.  Shower invites have already gone out and wedding invitations have been ordered and to be sent out in a week. We have had this conversation 3 times now but it doesnt seem to be setting in with them

The lady at the hall said she can fit 250 people (including WP) by using only round tables, which is what I want.  So our list right now is 280. Which to me is perfect cuz that allows 30 people to reply no. Yet his parents are saying invite 300 to get 200 yeses.

FH's cousin just got married last year and they only had 17 no's, so being that it is pretty much the same family this is what I am using as a reference. So can you guys tell me how many no's/no shows you guys had at your weddings?

we invited over 210 and we had 170 yes.  we knew for sure that there would be quite a few nos due to out of country.  Personaly tho, i would never invite more than the hall can fit.

We invited 150 and 120 are coming.  The ones we didn't expect to show up  are coming and the ones we did aren't.

We invited 145 and had 120 RSVP "yes".  Again, many of those we thought would come couldn't and vice versa.

Personally, I'd be hesitant to invite many more than our hall (or tables) could comfortably accept.

we invited quite a few people from several provinces away so we expected to get a lot of "no's" from that group.  most of the "local" did attend though so i'd be careful on how many invites you do send.

we invited about 160/170 and had 120 (or so... never did get the true count) actually attend.

We only had 1 no (one couple) ... so I'd also be hesitate to invite more than the hall can hold.

You could print out all these replies for your FHs parents to show them they might be taking a chance inviting 300!
