OK. We are doing a double Stag & Doe with fh's brother. 3 of 4 of us grew up in our small town. It sounds like the night is going to be a BIG party.... I'm getting a little worried about all the rules/regs. The capacity of the hall is 200 but apparently you can get a license to section off a section outside...has anyone done this???

We've done many of these parties before but not with 2 couples and now I'm wondering if I'm regretting this decision a bit.

Any suggestions???? Advice on how to keep the bar line moving... anything...

Am I worrying about nothing???

jbuckle!

I'll do my best to help answer your questions. I'm not sure where you're located or the rules specific to that city but in general...

1) yes, you can get a licence extension for outside of a room ~ it's a simple permit extension and in Toronto takes usually 15 days. You will need to check with the venue since this is usually their call and depends on their liquor licence. They would likely apply on your behalf.

2) Keeping lines moving ~ estimate 1 bartender for every 50 ppl. So in your case 200 ppl = 4 bartenders. I would likely limit it to 3 if big drinkers or 2 if not so big drinkers. Have someone selling tickets at the front door, or off to the side ~ this eliminates the need for bartenders to deal with cash. But, don't forget that if you do this the bartender will likely not make as much in tips. Keep your bar to simple things - beer, wine, basic mix. The fancier you guy the harder it is to keep the line moving. Also, if you do jello/pudding shooters ~ put them on a tray and have someone with an apron waitress them around and collect money ~ this frees up the bartenders to focus on mixing.

3) Always provide "free" stuff to people to do. We put out board games and decks of cards with the traditional "money grab" events. This puts ppl at ease and makes them feel like you just want their money less.

4) Serve some food. As a condition of your SOP (special occasion permit) this is a MUST! Also, if you serve stuff that is easy to eat and filling ppl will likely drink more because they can. Food absorbs some of the alcohol thus allowing them to have a drink or two more than normal.

5) Relax, take deep breathes and enjoy! Oh, and let your bridal party do a lot of the work. Your job it to help out, mix and mingle.

Good luck!

Thanks Scotbride... I think we're on the right track. We're considering doing a big beer tub as well (with tickets) for beer drinkers to keep the line down at the bar. We'll try for a special permit but since the party is on May 13th I'm not sure if we'll have time to get one.

I'll try to relax... thanks for the advice..

You have time.. it takes 10 days for a special occasion permit.  I would go now to get it.  Gives you more time.. and remember that.. if you are selling your own booze that you can only sell the booze bought under the license.  Which has to be displayed!  http://www.lcbo.com/products/permits.shtml  look there for more info... good luck!!
