I thought when my daughter was a baby that she was having some sort of baby nightmares, but has mostly been fine since. But tonight she just woke up SCREAMING about a chicken. Just terrified! I told her there was no chicken, it was just a bad dream. Then right after she fell asleep again BOOM the chicken was back. I almost don' tknow how to react, it scared the crap out of me when she was screaming! She is 3, and I was wondering if this is a common age for children to start with nightmares??I just took her around her room and moved all the toys around so she could see there was nothing, but I am worried I won't be able to handle a nightmare sometime.

I think it can happen at any age my son was getting night terrors at a year and half, he would wake up screaming about 5-10 times a night it was horrendous.

| I've heard that 3-5 is the most common age for bad nightmares because their imaginations are sooooo vivid but they still can't understand the concept of reality vs imaginary. They don't understand that what they see in their head is just in their head. My 3 year old has had a few bad nights, but my 2 month old has also started screaming in his sleep twice in a way that made me panic, but he was fine once I talked to him. So I can only assume he had nightmares too...
