I don't know if this decision made it easier or not, but I recently decided that instead of the big trees (logistical problems all around), I'm likely going to get smaller trees (they're about 2-3 feet high including the pot), and use those (somehow) on the tables, or I could still put them on the floor (maybe I can buy/build some largish "pedestals" that look like rocks and put the trees on flat spots on them).
Here's a pic of the little trees (sorry, camera phone):

LnG, I just saw your post--so sorry!! My original thought was just mini lights (I was thinking red & white), but pure white would be just fine, too. And no, it's not me who's against that idea, it's everyone else I suggest it to. They go "mini-lights? it's not a Christmas tree!!"
Maybe I could buy some gold wire and/or gold ribbon and make some little heart-shaped "ornaments" to put on the trees?
I like the mini-picture frame idea, too. I can't quite stomach the birds, though, I'm sorry, I'm just not a bird person (I have 4 cats).
I guess I should probably go pick up a couple trees or at least figure out how big the pots need to be and find out if I can get pots for less than the cost of the trees. If I just go with the plastic pots (easiest to decorate, IMO), should I just get white ones, and then if I don't cover the whole pot with whatever decorations (which is a whole different question!), then it won't look wrong?
Thanks!
Melissa
