I remember this topic being up before the board crashed... It was helpful to me to hear everyone's experiences, so I hope people will continue to share!

My total wedding budget is $8,000, which means a photographer was not one of my priorities. I don't tend to take many photos day to day, as I prefer to live the moment rather than digitally record it! I'm sticking to this philosophy on my wedding day, too... but have asked friends whose hobby it is to take a few photos.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they capture!

I'm not hiring a professional photographer either -- its so expensive to get a decent one! I don't have a very big budget either, especially for a downtown wedding. However, I am a pretty avid amateur photographer, and I have several friends who are too. So I was planning to ask at least one or two of them for some "posed" stuff of me & my FH the day of, and start a flickr pool to ask other attendees to contribute their stuff to.

I'll probably bring my DSLR along too and hand it off to one of my sisters for the ceremony and honestly... I expect I'll be the bride with the camera for at least some of it!

I'm not hiring a professional photographer either (my budget is also very small) but my aunt has done 2 weddings and asked if she could do it for me. You don't need a professional, but you probably will appreciate having a couple of pretty "posy" pictures.

we aren't hiring a professional either it's  just way too crazy expensive. everyone that is coming to the wedding(or almost everyone) will have a camera we'll get at least a few good pictures out of the  lot ...besides neither my FH nor I really like having our picture taken so any picture taken will be a bonus..for us and our guests . besides we are already over budget with the dress I bought

My budget is also tight. So, we aren't having a professional photographer. Instead we are getting a friend of the families to take pictures. He is an amazing photographer and does many weddings, I think he may actually have schooling.. not sure. Anyways, he's doing it as a wedding gift.

We're also going sans pro photographer.  Too much money... FH's grandpa is going to take our main pics, and like PP said, I'm sure between all the digital cameras that will be there, some will turn out.  I will be perfectly happy with my photo album of pics collected from family and friends, even though they might not look as nice as if they were done professionally.. less than 4 months to go, I guess we'll find out then how it's going to pan out

our professional photographers only cost us $600..  included...  tons in an album,  a bunch of 8x10, 5x7, 4x6, cds of all pictures that we took to walmart to have reprints done.. and they gave us one of their choice of pictures 8x10 framed..   i did a lot of shopping around..

I'm glad I went with them..  their picures were outstanding!
