I have been trying to grow my hair, especially now that I am getting married.  It is longer however it looks awful.  It's so dry and the ends are split.  I think I should cut it now while I still have a year to grow it back.  Any advice - shampoo, product that might help it!

If it's dry and split, maybe get a trim just to get rid of the dead hair. Do you use lots of heat? Curling irons, flat iron? Those can really dry out your hair. As for products? There are so many products out there meant for dry hair, etc., however I've never tried any! Try some and see what works!

How often do you have it trimmed? I think that when you're trying to grow it out you're supposed to have it trimmed every six weeks... (With STERN warnings to the hairdresser! ) Can anyone confirm?

I would definately cut off the split ends, they are not going to be saved no matter how much product you use. Once you cut the dead off it'll feel so much better and then work on keeping your new hair healthy!

As for dry hair, I use Redken's All Soft conditioner maybe 1 a week. It's amazing!

I've had long hair for as long as I can remember. I use Pantene Pro-V Ice Shine shampoo. I also rarely use product in my hair and I always towel dry. If you use heat on your hair there's products out there that are supposed to work with heat from hair dryers and curling irons you may wanna look at that. And definately go get the dead ends cut off.

I am sure the flat iron is mostly to blame.   I have an appointment in a few weeks so I think I will cut a bit and then be gentle to my hair from now on.  At least in the summer it's easier for me to give up the blow dryer and flat iron!  Thanks for you advice!!
