I am definitely doing a receiving line to thank everyone personally for coming.  No mingling for me during the reception.  Will not have time for that.

Question!!

So, I understand that if I don't have a receiving line I am required to mingle and greet the guests.

BUT-- if I DO have a receiving line does that mean I DONT have to mingle!!?? because if that is the case, I think I might be leaning more towards having a receiving line now. Quite frankly, I don't want to spend my evening worrying about if I've said hi to everyone and also I'm shy and a lot of people at my wedding I don't know (THANKS FMIL) ugh...

I think that if you have a receiving line you should still mingle with the guest and try to make it all the tables, but having the line ensures that you have greeted all of your guest at least once.

I had friends who were very happen they had a receiving line because during the reception with all that was going on they only got to about 3 or 4 tables

If you live to be a hundred then I want to live to be a hundred minus a day, so I never have to live without you.

Our best man and one of the bridesmaids are married.  At they're wedding they didn't have a recieving line. One of their friends asked me during the course of the evening to point out who they're parents were.  I'm hoping that by including the line all of his side of the family will be introduced to my parents at least once and all of my family will meet his parents and then all of our friends will have met all of our parents.

In the end - Its up to you.  I know you said you were shy but I'm sure that you will do some mingeling during the course of the evening.  It sounds as if you're leaning twards having a line.
