Cornpops,

We have 15. My lo isn't as old as Oliver but he still can't pull them off (6 months).  They are velcro not snaps to fasten them. I'd think you'd need at least 15... I'm washing almost every day or day and a half with 15. Your loads would have to be even smaller with 12. I may even purchase a few more but  we'll see.

I'd reccommend getting the diapers that come with the doubler.  I bought mine at snugglebugz in burlington and each diaper came with the insert and a doubler which is really handy for nights.  So it would be a good deal if the diapers come with 2 inserts.  But you could always purchase additional inserts.

Also, for wipes, you don't need anything fancy. I got lots and lots of the thin cheap cloths and I just use those with my own wipes solution (I got from another board) which I can post if you'd like.

Thanks for all the info jbuckle, we're going to definately do cloth diapering but I think we'll hold off till August to buy most of them cause that's when our lo is due and I'm not having my shower until after the baby is born.  I'm planning on spreading the word that I'd like to use this brand of diaper lol!  I am interested in the wipe solution you use if you could post it  Thanks again!

Jaedagal-since I remember you posting about them quite a while ago,how long have you been using the same diapers and how is the velcro after a period of time? Do you have that toilet sprayer if so is it worth getting?Do the snaps have a strong hold? I just imagine an active baby, the snaps coming apart and a mess when the diaper hangs too low off the bottom. lol! I am a beginnerat diapering all together... I really don't know what to expect!

I looked on e-bay the other day and you can get a kit that includes 12 bumgenius diapers (random colors) 12 flannel wipes, 1 toilet sprayer and 1 bottle of bottom cleaner for $285.63CAD plus shipping and handling. Is that a good deal? If I'm planning on using cloth diapers always at home and only disposables when we're out or if someone's babysitting how many diapers would I need total? 12 is probably not enough. Thanksladies!

Oli's been using them for 13.5 months (he's 14 months now) and they are holding up perfectly. The Velcro is still really strong and the snaps are tight so he can't pull them even if he tried, but mind you we are at the size where he doesn't use the snaps (large toddler). I've had the rare leak, but that was my fault because i forgot to change his diaper (he's a super soaker anyways).

Hey no worries. Dh was a beginner too and he's never changed a diaper before Oli let alone seen one done. Now he's a pro! I've never used the spray with the diaper can, so i can't comment on that. I've had no problems with poopy diapers -- I just dump the poop in the toilet and dump the diaper in a pail till I'm ready to wash them. One good thing about Bum Genius, is that you can wash them in hot water (to clean them thoroughly and to get any stain out) and they dry fairly quickly in the dryer.

TMI, once in a while he'll have a runny diaper and I just take a wet wipe and try to scrape off the poop. As a 0-6 months their poop is just breast milk/formula so it can easily be washed away by rinsing or just a bit longer of a wash in the washing machine. 6 months on when they start solids their poop changes and becomes firm so all you have to do is dump it in the toilet. Trust me, you might get grossed out at the thought of doing all this, but you get use to it very quickly. I have horror stories at what Oli's done -- peed on me and everyone and even pooped on me. Oh the joys of motherhood!

You'll want more than 12 diapers. I have 24 so I don't have to do them everyday. I do the laundry every 5 or 6 days now since he dirties less diapers. When he was younger I was doing the laundry every 3 days.

Sorry, i'm typing this out really quickly because Oli's really wanting to go out and play in the yard -- so no time to re-read for mistakes.

Toby is 3 weeks old and we've just started using the Bum Genius 3.0. So far everything's great!

No leaks, they hold a TON of pee and no poopy leaks like we were having with the Pampers disposables.

We bought 24 of the BumGenius and they came as a kit with a diaper pail, washable bag, detergent, 100 disposable liners and 6 washable liners and it was about 400$. But I got them in Montreal and was able to use my "Mommies Card" which is something available here that gives you discounts at certain stores. I got them at "Bummies" and they may be available to order on-line.

I can't believe the savings we're going to have over the next 2 years using these!

Chris

Is there anywhere on line that I can order these from? I've only found them at BoBebe in Calgary and they're 25 dollars each there..

When I was at BoBebe they didn't have them, but they had some very similar and they were 4 for $70 I think.

I got mine at this website.  Canadian and free shipping.  The lady was SOOO helpful.  I love my BumGenius diapers!  I have the 2.0's which are pretty much the same, however they are getting hard to find now that the new version is out!

This is my wipes solution that I got from a girl on another site. It's great.

about 1 part Witch Hazel
about 4-5 parts water
1/2 part Aloe Vera Gel (I use one with no green dye)
a few drops of grapeseed oil

1/4 part Johnson's Baby Shampoo (optional)
3 drops Tea Tree Oil

I actually have added more water... maybe 6-7 parts water....

How do you find dealing with the messy dirty diapers? I want to use CDs for our lo, but am not sure about dealing with the poopy diapers.

We are using flushable liners, so cleaning up poop is uber easy. Take out the liner with the poop on it and
