I have black hair, and I have noticed that the skin on my underarms after I shave is very dark.  So are my elbows.  Is there anything I can do to possibly bleach these spots or at least make my skin lighter?  Thanks for your help.

Of course I choose a strapless wedding gown, and didn't think of these "issues" untill I tried on my dress for the first fitting.  I should just add this to the list of thing I should have thought about first.

Possibly, for your underarms, if you can take the pain, get them waxed, it'll help 'cos you won't have the little stubble dots.   But beware that armpit hair grows in twice as fast as leg hair, so if you're only going to do it once, do it two or three days before your wedding, and then just shave the day of to get rid of any left over bits...

As for the elbows, mosturize like crazy and exfoliate.... but find a scrub that works for you.  I'm mixed, so I get darker elbows and knees... I use a body brush mostly everyday to exfoliate, but I use a pumice foot scrub on the tougher areas (like elbows), but I also have one of those like microdermabrasion body scrubs too...  It takes a month or so before you'll really notice anything, but it's well worth it.

Maybe even try tanning a bit to darken the lighter areas?....

I get the dark patches too, I never considered that it could be from being mixed ethnicities, which I am, my dad is very dark and my mom is fair, and I am very fair. My pubic hair grows in black and the rest of my body hair is blonde, anywhere that I have black hair the skin is darker, it's really strange looking to me, I dislike it. I have found that not shaving, I use an epilator, has got rid of most of the black under my arms, it was getting really dark, as if the shaving made the skin turn that way. I also have a large lighter brown cafe au lait spot that goes from the top of my left breast to half way down my left arm. And I am still going to wear a strapless dress.

don't worry about it!

I am glad I am not the only one!  I have wondered for years what to do about my pits looking darker.  I always thought it was stubble because my hair is dark??
