HI all,
Fiance and I went to check this place out the other day - the terrace was beautiful and perfect for our outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour before the reception, weather permitting, and the hall was nice - though felt a bit claustrophobic to me, and I just couldn't envision what the wedding itself would look like, considering the fact that the room dividers were all up - we were only able to see one half of the entire hall, set up like its own space, and then we half-peeked into another quarter section of the other side, as the other half was split into 2 separate rooms, so quarters, for different meetings.
The price seemed ok, cost per head is about $100 per person and goes up in increments obviously depending on the options you choose but even for $100 pp the amount of food you get and the open bar that it comes with was very reasonable. This included all taxes and the cost of renting the space as the rental fee is not broken out separately.
I wasn't keen on using a traditional banquet hall space, but FH and I liked the garden/terrace so much for the outdoor reception, that it is a definite contender. The inside lobby area of the hall is VERY nice - and the hall is decent and I'm sure would look good once it's all dressed up for a wedding.
I just wonder if anyone has had experiences with this hall, either by way of visiting it, being in contact with them while searching for venues, been to an event here where food was served to speak of food quality and service, and/or had your wedding there yourself.
Oh - one more thing. The guy we met with made sure to tell us, that for our guest list size (120 or so), that typically they would only book us half the hall but that for about $1000 more (and he would not commit to this number, saying it depended on calculations - I'm not sure what - the price of booking the whole hall as opposed to just half SHOULD in theory at least in my mind be the same no matter what as long as you meet food/beverage minimums for the first half cost or something)... anyhow he said that for approx. $1000 more, we could have the WHOLE hall.
Otherwise he said he would work like hell (as he put it) to book out the other half for the same date, and chances are we would not be the only ones using the facilities, which would mean the lobby area would be shared (where people go for some quiet when they want it, where cocktails would be held in case of rain likely, share bathrooms, etc. along w/ the bridal suite, and possibly not be the only bride/groom on premise - not my idea of "ideal" - but we felt like he was sort of wording it in a way that should have made us feel threatened, for lack of a better word, into paying the extra to book the entire hall. On that same token the guy didn't seem too thrilled about us booking the entire hall.
Not sure why but likely because he'd lose money if we booked the entire thing, since we'd only be paying an extra $1000 or so to book it whereas a whole separate event could make him a lot more money...... I'm not really sure what his motive/agenda was, and not sure I care either but just looking for input on this and on experiences/info anyone might have regarding this venue in general.
I am looking for any info anyone can give me to help me say yay or nay on this venue once the time comes. FH and I are going to look at a few other halls before end of the month and then by end of month we're making a final decision come hell or high water - pardon the language.
Here is a link to the venue if anyone needs a refresher on which one it is, or if you're just interested and never heard of it before.
Thanks to all who respond!

That was my second choice on my list if I didn't get the one that I wanted. The food is amazing there. Good choice if you do go with it and yes $100 for the food and open bar is reasonable!

I went to view this place too it seemed very nice, but there were paintings all over the wall apparently its an art gallery. I wasnt too keen on that idea, beacuse my wedding is going to have children and all i was thinking was what if they get damaged. I to was quoted $100/plate. I ended up checking out Paradise Banquet hall and La Contessa. I got a way better deal at La Contessa

Jelly Bean - You are referring to the art gallery within the Columbus Centre. Sala Caboto is a banquet hall on the same property - it's actually part of the retirement home believe it or not. You have to go outside in order to access it as it's in a separate building on the same property. It is an actual banquet hall and has a beautiful garden/terrace outside with sculptures and fountains. There are no paintings in Sala Caboto - that is inside the Columbus Centre.
