My passport is in my maiden name and doesn't expire until 2009 (or 2010? ) My driver's licence, Visa, bank card, care card, etc. are in my married name. If I were to travel to the US or internationally, I'd only use my passport as ID anyway as they mainly only accept passports these days, SO, do you think it's ok that I don't change my passport right now? I don't want to spend the $80 (or whatever it is), and get the photos and fill out the forms, blah, blah, blah, to renew my passport and change the last name if it's no big deal to leave it as is for now!Thoughts?

| I think as long as you book any airline tickets in the same name as the ID you will be using, you should be ok (but I'm not an expert).

i would just do it. i'm not bothering right now, because i'm still changing all my other ids over - and i'm only flying to halifax so i'm going to bring my marriage liscence, my id's that say both names, etc.... but if i was flying anywhere but canada i'd make sure it's all in one name! airports are stringent enough these days!

WesteeMama (6/20/2008) I think as long as you book any airline tickets in the same name as the ID you will be using, you should be ok (but I'm not an expert).
That's what I was thinking too... you should probably be ok as long as all of your travel info is booked in the name that matches your passport.
I'd probably still take along your marriage certificate to be safe in case there's an issue where for whatever reason you're showing some other id and it has your married name already on it.

I'm in the same boat, but I think I'm just going to submit my name change now and get it done, because I dont want to run into any problems. The thing that would most complicate booking in your maiden name I would imagine, is if your credit cards/banking info are in your married name already, I imagine the booking agent would have to use the name on your credit card...? I think there is a quick change passport form we can fill out for this now, but I'll keep you posted. This is on my to-do list, you never know when I'll win a trip to Vegas! I'll try to get it done soon!

I was in the same dilemma. I decided to just pony up the $80 and get a new passport in my married name. The way my luck goes, I would end up getting stuck in a foreign country on a technicality. As for the quick forms, they don't work for a name change. You have to fill out the "original" form again (just like applying for your very first passport) and get new pics and guarantor siggy's and such. It did make it easier as DH was my guarantor since they changed that rule of who could be a guarantor.

| I was told by the passport office that if your passport is in your maiden name, but tickets/travel arrangements are in your married name that you will need to travel with your marriage certificate to prove it. I would assume that since all your other ID has your married name that this would be the best solution. I would suggest calling the passport office though. That way all your questions can be answered.
