Hi ladies,

Just wondering how long did it take for you to get all your ids changed?

I'm just wondering if I have enough time since we'll be traveling in Oct & have booked in my married name.

I just got married 2 weeks ago.

Thanks!!!

It takes only as long as it takes you to go into the various offices to change them, once you get your marriage certificate.  I think it took 12 weeks to get my certificate (but I could be wrong), then I just had to get my butt into the DL, OHIP and bank to change it. They just enter the new info in the computer and it's done. With the DL and health card, they gave me a temporary card until my new one, with my new pic/name came in.  You should be fine for October

So far the only thing I've needed the certificate for is my DL so I have to wait to change it. Hope the certficate comes soon!

All you need to change your health card is the record of solomization. I did mine yesterday.

I'm about 60% done or so

It took me about a month to get everything changed over and back in my married name. I got my marriage certificate about 3-4 weeks after our wedding, and then after I sent away all the forms (healthcare, student loan & ID, bank information etc), and went to get my new licence, it was about a month (except bank info, that was immediate) by the time I got everything with my new name.

Good luck.

So this may seem like a dumb question but I always thought you had to legally change your name once you got married.  From the way all you are talking it's just a matter of going in and telling various places you got married....sounds a whole lot easier to me than I thought it was going to be

don't have to legally change it you can just assume for DH's last name.. if you legally change it, you need to change for birth certificate.  or at least that was what i read yesterday...

Yes you just assume his name. Much easier! You can read about it at www.gov.on.ca go to Life Events, Getting Married
