We're thinking of getting an "Ice luge" -- I saw one at an event I was at recently and it's super cool -- they take your martini mixer and the alcohol and pour it through the top of an ice sculpture... by the time it gets to the bottom it's chilled and pours into your glass. It'll be a fun addition to our cocktail reception. Do you think it's cheesey?

ANyone seen one before?

We're doing one. It is a bit pricey, but we have a minimum at our venue and figure we need to spend that much we might as well utilize it for things that will be of interest.
Plus my family is very into martini's and icy drinks. My dad actually talked about having a Margarita Slushy machine at my wedding. We couldn't find one to rent, so we settled for the luge.

The luge concept is very cool. I know what they are, just wish I knew how to pronounce the word LUGE. Is it like "looj" or is it more like "loog" ??

I vote "looj." lol

There was one at a party I went to at TRYST (super cool nightclub) in Vegas last year. Ours had chocolate martinis. My fave!

I may want one too but it does cost more..... what's the price like ladies?

Done so far:
Asked wedding party, decided on venue (Miller Lash), got catering quotes, decided theme, brainstorming details, started dress search, hired kicka$$ planner, made vendor lists, fought with FMIL, made up with FMIL, lost e-ring, found e-ring... only 10 mos to go!

I think its not done often enough to be cheesy. I would go for it.

I also am interested in doing this for my wedding reception for our signature martinti. I saw one at an engagement party a few years ago and it was really cool!

Here are some of the places I found around Toronto that offer them:

There was one at a buck and doe that I went to last year. Made by Ice Culture (mentioned in the post above), which is in a small town near me.

Anyways, it's a cool concept, but it was left unattended...which meant that drunk guys were pouring their beers down it and using it as a funnel (aka sucking on the end of it). Not really appetizing for the rest of us. Just my thought: you might want to have someone attending it.
