| Anthony is scheduled to go for his 2 month immunizations on Wednesday and I have to say I am fairly nervous. So many people that I talk to bring up autism and say that it is more common in boys than girls. I have done some research.....to be honest though I have tried not to as sometimes "googling" isnt the best idea! Today a friend of mine told me that her neighbor has 4 children. Her first 2 were immunized and ended up autistic and she did not do her other 2 and they are fine. Could be a coincidence...who knows.... For me, not immunizing Anthony is not an option. I would personally feel as though I were not protecting him if I chose not to, however I am still nervous about the appointment. I would like to hear other peoples views on this.......

OK - I don't have children... but here is how i feel about this!
My best friend works with Autistic children... and with all of her background, she says there really isn't any hard evidence proving that the shots cause autisim.
I like you feel that it is important to protect your child with immunizations... however, i feel that they are often given at too young an age, ie. when they are still building their own immune system. I am not sure if this is possible, but i think it would be good if we waited a little bit longer to give children the bulk of their immunizations. I think then their bodies would be better able to tolerate them. If anyone knows if this is possible... please post! ~ Alli xoxo

| I haven't done much research yet on immunizations, although I know a lot of women on here have and could give you their thoughts on it. Not immunizing isn't something I'm likely to seriously consider, though. As for the link with autism, I'm with alligap - my brother works for the Ministry of Children and Families and does work relating to autism, and he says there is no substantiated link.

We have decided not to vaccinate Lucas. It comes down to whether or not you think the risk of the vaccine outweighs the benfits. The decision TO or NOT TO vaccinate should never be made out of FEAR. Do your research. I recommend reading the CDC Pink Book and learning about each disease that your child will be vaccinated against. I also really liked Dr Sears' book (can't recall the title at the moment) because although it's pretty pro-vax it does list the ingredients in brand name vaccinations and also offers an alternative schedule for parents who want to vaccinate but don't agree with the amount of vaccines given so soon.
Good luck in your research.

I have spoken to my Dr. about it as Camy also goes for her needles on Wednesday. I brought up Autism as someone in my family does have it, I am that much closer to the situation. He did give me the option to not do the shots but he gave me the pros and cons of each to help us decide. We are going ahead with the shots tomorrow as the biggest piece of information he provided is that there is no evidence of the link. My Dr. also told us that they were investigating one of the medicines and that it had now infact been disproven. Like you I also do not want to do any more research as we feel the pros outweight the cons and there is just so much info out there...

| Like Fascha said it's a decision that has to be made after lots of reading and research. If you feel it's necessary to vaccinate your lo, then maybe opting for a different vaccination schedule i.e.: pushing back the vaccines could be an option for you. Personally I haven't completely made the decision yet, but at this point if my lo is going to be vaccinated it will be further down the road so that their own immune system has time to develop. As for the vaccination and autism discussion... the argument of "there's no proven connection" doesn't do it for me. Just because it hasn't been proven/proven yet doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Remember they once thought the world was flat! IMO I find the rise in vaccination and the rise in autism curious to say the least, but I still have more reading to do.

| Please also keep in mind while doing your research that you need to factor in the difference between Canadian/U.S. ingredients etc. I was told by my doctor that the big concern (which has yet to be proven/disproven) is Thimeresol (sp?), but she told me that vaccinations in Canada do not contain that ingredient...or at least, not all do... so, as my husband always tells me, make sure you are researching/finding Canadian facts, not U.S. ones...
