DH is adament about not vacinnating. I'm currently on the fence, but leaning more towards not. I have lots of further research to conduct and will base my decision on that, not how other people think we should parent.

I'm going to kinda pipe in b/c not only do I have an MD, but I have a graduate degree in Immunology (yes, I'm a geek :Whistling The vaccines are not given too early...and they are "timed" in accordance to when the immune system is developing, which is appropriate given how the immune system develops (which is a HUGE topic that is truly hard to simplify). But I will say that the immune system is comprised of various cells that attack "bugs" (i.e. bacteria, viruses, etc etc) in different ways. So, different cells are involved - cells communicate with other cells and signals are not "all or none" - a certain signalling threshold must be attained for immune cells to be "activated". So as vaccines are introduced, they are done so as the "corresponding" immune cells are being developed and this enures their "activation" so to speak.
As for vaccines and autism....I know of the supposed link (or not) with the MMR vaccine. There have been recent papers out on this topic but needless to say, IF the vaccine were involved (and I emphasize IF) there is much more involved than just the vaccine - there very likely is a genetic predisposition present. I don't know if I've made any sense or not...what I do know is that the simplified explainations of the immune system provided in various layman articles are waaay over-simplified. Heck, even how it is taught in med school, while still indepth, does not come close to what I have learnt during my undergraduate and graduate degree in the topic. But I still find it interesting. Bottom line though...I'm all for vaccinations...but I'm biased I guess.
Now, I'm going to deal with my son who is sitting next to me with a spoon, a and a cup of what once held yoghurt...and unfortunately, most of the yoghurt isn't in his tummy.
Thanks for sharing Slakie. It's really great to have people like you and gr8blessings around to help us all out. I will be vaccinating my child, no doubt about it. To me, the risks of not doing it outweigh the risks of doing it.
And a note about the austim- I work with Autistic children, 2 from the same family, one with a very severe case of Autism and one with Aspergers Syndrome. One was vaccinated, one was not- they both still have it.
Maybe the increase in autistic children is because we actually know how to diagnose it now and not due to vaccines? Just a thought...

That's exactly it. My nephew is severely autistic and that is exactly what the autism foundations/programs he's using/going to say. They are doing a much better job of diagnosing the different ranges of Autism. Even with my nephew, it took a long time to properly diagnose him. He went through 5 years of people saying "oh he's fine", "well, he might be a little slow at learning, but every child learns at their own speed", to "He has the mildest form of Aspergers Syndrome", to "He def. has Aspergers Syndrome", to "he's servery Autistic"... Unfortunately, currently his mental capacity is functioning at 13% level of what an average boy his age is.
His mother didn't do the immunization shots either... You could also tell as a newborn that their was something different and the older he got the more apparent it was.
I don't have the knowledge to say that shots could be a cause in the rise of autism, but I do know what my nephew has been through and the immunization shots *weren't* the cause of his Autism.
For Oli, I did get his shots done, to me the risks were too high not to.
