| Hey everyone! FH and I booked a 12 night mediterranean cruise and now we have to book these things called "shore excursions" has anyone had any experiences with these, and is it ok to just go tour by yourself?

sreibot, I'm doing a Canada/NEw England cruise is October, and we are also doing the shore excursions! if you are going all teh way to Europe and spending all that $$$ on a cruise, you might as well do it right and "see the sights" you know what I mean??? SOme popular tourist spots in Europe are not all close to the port, in fact, it's probably likely that they aren't. I would recommend you look at the shore excursions and pick at least a few... I mean, do you really want to hang out by the pier and walk around when you could hop on a bus and do a city tour of Rome for example??? Definately do the excursions!

| Hi Steph...we also booked a Mediterranean Cruise for our honeymoon through the Holland America Line on June 10-June 20. We will definitely be booking shore excursions but not at every port. Places like Rome, Tunisia (carthage), Barcelona, Florence we will definitely explore through the execursions, but Palma de Mallorca,Monte Carlo, and a couple of other smaller ports we decided we would explore on our own. I looked into the price of the excursions and they run anyhere from $30pp to $150pp. The website of the cruise company you booked with will have descriptions/prices of various excursions offered at each port. I'm sure they will also offer these and more on the ship itself. Good luck T & S May 21, 2006

I was on a Med cruise a few years ago......I absolutely loved it by the way......in some ports we booked the shore excursions; in others, we did our own thing....it just depended on if the shore excursions had the sights and places we wanted to see. I absolutely adored Italy and Spain!! What a wonderful honeymoon!
