I don't mean to be rude, but what are some reasons ladies choose to have a C section? I'm learning about TTC and pregnancy, so please forgive my ignorance!

Hmmmm... not so sure it's an actual choice. From what I understand women get c-sections if the baby can't be safely delivered vaginaly or if the baby is overdue and just doesn't want to come out and is getting too big.

With my daughter I didn't have a choice. I was 130 lbs when I got pregnant and had a fairly small frame, however I was told a c- section was probably gonna happen. I went as long as I could to see if I could have her naturally, 36 hours hard labour, until they made me have the c-section. My daughter was born 9 lbs, 11 oz, a big girl!

I don't believe in Canada that you can *choose* to have a c-section. There must be medical reasons behind the decision.
I DID have a c-section but after 5 hours of pushing with no drugs. I ended up having to have an emergency c-section as the baby's head did not fit through my pelvis and the skin was scraping off his head. After having been through the recovery I can't say that I would ever volunteer to have a c-section.

| As I would prefer to deliver vaginally I think some people may choose ie "stars" for some of the follwing reasons: (again, these are only what I THINK I may be wrong) 1) Being more planed & Knowing the exact Birth date 2) Had a previous c-section and can come out the same insition (sp) this is what my SIL is going to do with her second 3) no "labor" (given its not an emergency c-section) 4) multiples or large baby as said by pp Here's some more info I found online http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/07/08/earlyshow/health/main628215.shtml

I have the perfect family!!!!

Well for one...celebrities choose to have a C-section because they get a "Tummy tuck" at the same time...haha. Must be nice! But for us "real" people, I guess some of us perfer a c-section because they are feel giving vaginal birth too traumatizing. Atleast that is why I perferred a c-section. But here in Ontario, we don't just have a choice. It is vaginal birth for everybody, unless there was a medical reason they had to perform a c-section. A c-section is a major surgery, so they wouldn't do that as an option first before vaginal. I had given birth at 28weeks gestation. So my baby is premature. When I was told that I was going to give birth, I asked if it was going to be vaginal or c-section. The nurses told me that it could be vaginal, even though the baby is quite small. But it would be the doctor's call whether he would do a c-section or vaginal on me. He chose to do c-section because he wanted to get the baby out quick. But let me tell ya...the recovery was painful!! after 24hrs, you start feeling the pain. I was on Tylenol 3 and Morphin!!
