Ya, that is extremly materialistic! I don't even have an engagment ring yet and my fiancee is soooo upset about it. I told him if he got my ring from a pawn shop for 20 bucks it wouldn't matter to me, (he didn't go for that, he says he's saving for a nice one in the future) like you said, it's not the ring thats important, it's the meaning behind it.

Here is my input on the situation.
Your friend sounds to be very jealous, (because you "beat" her to the ring race) and Obviously does not know how diamonds work. She might get a HUGE ring, but there is no way every other spec is going to be good to allow it to be a reasonable price!
My FH game me a custom ring, very similar to yours....except there are baguette diamonds down each side....and people have said to me it's small, but realistically, if you added up all the diamonds on it and throw that into a solitaire ring it would be huge!! It just depends on how you lay out the diamonds. My ring was not any cheaper then big huge rings because the specs on the diamonds are so good!
Sooo, tell your friend....To add up all the diamond on your ring and then see who has a small ring!!
