For the past 2 days I feel like I can't take a deep breath. Like my lungs don't fill all the way or something. It's hard to describe. I chalked it up to the shallow breathing that pregnant women have. But today I mentioned it to a co-worker (mother of 2) who said that at 23 weeks it's too early to be suffering from that. Then she looked really concerned and asked me about my blood pressure. So of course I did what we always say not to do... I googled it. Now I'm freaked out that it might be some bigger problem. Too much amniotic fluid or an embolism. And now because I'm panicking I'm finding it harder to breath. What do I do???

Relax.
Don't google anything else.
Call your doctor and go for an appointment. It's probably nothing just your body adjusting to the baby growing in your belly, but seeing your doctor at this point, for you, would be my suggestion.
Have you ever taken any yoga or meditation classes? Try breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth...closing your eyes for a few minutes and just focus on deep breaths... (they taught us this at our prenatal classes as well).

Lie down if you can, close your eyes, think calming thoughts...maybe have a drink of water. When you are a little calmer, call your doctor and make an appointment. Its likely nothing to worry about, and I'll be the peace of mind you get from having your doctor tell you that will make you breathe a little easier, literally and figuratively.

| Thanks ladies. I'm at work, so it's a little hard to find somewhere to lie down. le sigh My MW is a little far to get to, so I think I might go to the walk in clinic next door and just have them do a quick check blood pressure and what not. My next MW appointment is July 29 so hopefully the walk in will ease my mind until then... if not, I'll have to book a half day at work so I can see the MW. And yes EEK, no more googling!

| Sometimes pregnancy hormones can cause shortness of breath (which is what you call the experience you are having). Unfortunately, focusing on it and worrying (thanks to your co-worker) will make it seem worse. Call your doctor to reassure yourself and as others have said, stop googling!!

| Well ladies I went next door to the walk in clinic. Told them everything. They checked my blood pressure, which was good. Made me pee in a cup (which I fail miserably at every time) and they think I might have a UTI, but they're sending out for further tests just to be sure. And then he listened to my lungs. He said that it sounded like there wasn't enough air getting through which may be due to the recent humidity, a new allergy, or normal pregnancy issue, or a combination of all of the above. So he prescribed Flovent Inhaler. The Dr. said that the Flovent was fine during pregnancy because it went right to my lungs and didn't go to the fetus... which didn't seem right to me. So I googled it... I know, I know, but here's the link. It doesn't sound good to me... and I don't think that the symptoms outweigh the risks (or at least not at this point). Looking for alternatives ladies. Erin MD??? TIA http://asthma.emedtv.com/flovent/flovent-and-pregnancy.html
