Erin, Kirsty, you two are great!  Thank you.  I did call my MW, but there was no MW there.  Reception told me to call Motherisk which I haven't done, but will do.  I can also page the MW on call and talk to them.

Erin, I have tried the breathing techniques, and they are somewhat helpful.  When the DR. checked my lungs he asked me to take deep breaths with my mouth open... then he checked twice to see if I was taking deep breaths, and make sure my mouth was open... so there's just not enough air getting in there.  I'm going to try to take it easy, and stay in the air conditioning.  And relax.

Thank you again.

Oh yea- call Motherrisk- definately do that!

Flovent is an inhaled corticosteroid with the purpose of reducing swelling in the airways of the lungs. The absorption in the bloodstream is pretty low (although some is absorbed) and it is generally considered safe in pregnancy. It is a risk-benefit thing to consider...i.e. are the benefits of the medication outweighing its risksand/or do the risks of not taking it (that is, not breathing well) outweigh the risks of taking it.

Flovent takes a week or so to get up to speed and is not a quick relief inhaler. Do you have asthma or a history of having this happening before? Do you have allergies that affect your lungs (ie wheezing, coughing)? Did they give you a quick relief inhaler like salbutamol?

Do they think you have a respiratory infection or chest cold?

I know that very little of it gets into the blood stream, however I'm uncomfortable with the C rating it got. At this point I don't think the risks outweigh the potential risks of taking it.

I have no history of Asthma or any respiratory problems. The only time I ever had any kind of breathing problems was when I was having a panic attack, but I don't think that's related. I did have an allergy to dust when I was very young, and I remember my dad taking away all my stuffed animals, but nothing since then.

The Dr. wasn't sure why, he seemed to be leaning to perhaps a new allergy. He wants me to use the Flovent which he said should make a difference by Monday, if not I'm to see him or my MW for a f/u. He asked me if I felt anxious because I wasn't getting enough air right this second, I said no, so he didn't give me anything as far as quick relief goes.

I used to be a cross country runner, and runner just for fun after that, as well as being a soccer girl. So my lungs were good then. I started smoking when I was 18, quit soon after I found out I was preggers. And there's no history of respiratory problems in my family.

Here's the motherisk website, although it doesn't list Flovent specifically. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to call.

I'm doing ok... much better when I'm lying down. I found a really great website www.abchomeopathy.com and I was able to run a rubicon (list of symptoms) for myself and come up with a remedy. I went with Pulsatilla, so we'll see how things look tomorrow. Thanks for checking in Erin.

Of course, just wanted to make sure things were going ok! It seems to be the opposite for me, when I have a hard time breathing I need to stand up- laying down makes it worse? I'm glad you found something that is working. Hopefully tomorrow is better...are you going to try calling your MW tomorrow?? I think it would be smart...

Have a good night- breath easy and relax!
