Oh how I envy you!!!  I would LOVE to use a midwife. Unfortunitely I didn't get an option because of where I live, I'm too far away.

I have one... from what I've been told they do everything that an OB would do.  The big difference is the time I guess.  An OB appointment (although some ladies on here have really good ones) will last maybe 10 mins, you see the actual Dr. for 2mins.  My appointments with the MW are booked for 30mins.  They also tend to be more on the "a woman's body knows what to do" line and, as I understand, there is usually less intervention.

Glad you found one.  Just remember the most important part is that you're comfortable with the person!

another important & big difference between midwifery care & care from an OB is continuity of care 6 weeks post partum

I had a mw with ds 10 years ago & have mw's again this second pregnancy - there is no other way for me

midwives can only provide care to low risk women, so i realize it is not an option for every woman

c'était l'amour...September 2, 2007...

and now we await baby: August 2008

I had a midwife with my son and absolutley LOVED her!!!  I highly reccommend it.  I found the quality of care so much more personal, I like it that way.

I was born at home with a midwives, my sister in law is a midwife in London and my sister had two of her babies with midwives---I'm definitely getting a midwife!

You also have a midwife for your whole birth, whereas with some OB/GYN's they are only there for the last 10 minutes!
