| Nolan is 3 1/2 months old and I've never really pushed the pacifier, not that I'm against it at all just he didn't seem to need or want one. Now I'm noticing him sucking his fingers and needing to suck in order to go to sleep. So today I tried him with it again and he seems to really benefit from it, however I'm afraid he's going to wake up when it falls out which I think is what happened during his nap but its hard to tell because he's not a great sleeper to begin with soooo my questions are... when does your LO use the pacifier? and does you LO wake up when it falls out?

| My lo will sometimes use the pacifier when falling asleep. Sometimes he wakes when it falls out but it is only if I have just put him down. If he is really asleep he won't wake up. Actually he has never woken up from the sleep with it still in.

| My baby has been using it since he was in the NICU. The nurses there seem to use them on the babies, I guess to just quiet them up. So since he's been home, he's already gotten so used to it. I never wanted him to get used to it, because I know later on it would be hard to ween him off it. But he seems to want it when he's beeing fussy, or wanting to sleep. During the nights when he is fussing, he seems to calm down and go back to sleep when I put the soother in his mouth. And yes, when it falls out...the wakes up and starts whining again! And I think to myself, I can not do this all night!

I never wanted to use one but my pediatrician said to try it as Toby would want to nurse for HOURS at a time. I couldn't do anything all day. Not that I get much done now. Anyways...
I only use it when he's basically done nursing but just wants to suck. And it only works if he's really sleepy. If it falls out he doesn't really care. And the only other time I use it is sometimes in the car if he's upset. But generally he doesn't really like it much at all.
We don't use it at night as he falls asleep by himself and basically sleeps through the night.

Jaxon was also given one in NICU. They use them with preemies to help them sooth themselves. I actually read that pacifier's are not recommended until after breastfeeding is well established, unless your baby is a preemie. He uses it sometimes to fall asleep and once he is asleep if it falls out he doens't care.
