Has anyone been married at Melia Las Dunas in Santa Maria Cuba. We are considering this spot for our wedding in April and would love to hear some feedback

Hi there

My fiance and I have our wedding booked at the Melia Las Dunas for March 2008.  I can tell you that our planning has so far gone very well.  Brenda, the Canadian Wedding Coordinator for the Sol Melia chain has been so helpful and has answered all my questions superbly (brenda@solmeliacuba.ca).  I have done a lot of research of reviews on the resort and so far it seems quite fantastic.  The only negatives I've heard are: lots of mosquitoes (could just be in the rainy season though), food is mediocre, very secluded...but, it is what you make of it right?  If you go prepared for the mosquitoes and appreciate that you are in a different country, you should really enjoy yourself.  As for the wedding details, we qualified for the free wedding package and I was able to get Brenda to send me a list of extras that you can buy - flowers, champange, cake etc.  There is also a world class spa on site that you can take advantage of and all your appointments can be made one month prior to your departure  I have also heard from Brenda that the resort basically will let you get married wherever you want on the resort and that they have a portable gazebo if you want to use that...there is also a disco/karoke for the reception which I don't think is private but I've heard that you can persuade the coordinator to let you have it for an hour or so.  I don't know if any of this is any help, but I'm so far pleased and looking forward to it.  Congrats and good luck!!

Hello,

My fiance and I are also getting married at the Melia Las Dunas.  We are booked for April 2008.

We researched several different resorts in Cuba and ended up picking Las Dunas mainly because it had all of the things we were looking for and the price was really good compared to some of the other resorts.

I haven't been in contact with the resort at all because my travel agent says you deal with all of your wedding details once you arrive.  Now I am beginning to wonder (and worry) if I should be making more detailed plans.

What type of questions are you asking the Sol Melia wedding rep?   I always see posts in here about the brides contacting the wedding coordinators at the resort and wonder what they are talking about.  Am I missing something in the process?

I am asking her mostly questions about the site, such as asking for pictures of previous weddings, where we can have our post ceremony dinner, pictures of the flowers and cakes and all of the official documents too. I think we will also qualify for the free wedding but may want to add some stuff so I have asked for more info on the "add ons". We are still waiting to confirm for the week of April 12-19, but once we do I guess I will confirm all of the details with the coordinator.

What week are you going?

Thanks for the info - are you getting any response from her? did she have pictures to send you?  I didn't know that they would send you picture in advance.  I would love to see some of the options.

We arrive on April 19th and our wedding is set for the 22nd.  We have enough people coming to qualify for the free wedding and are not sure yet which extras we will need.  Although we are definately getting the live cuban "band" as I have heard that this is totally worth it.

Hey fellow MLD brides

I'm getting married at Melia Las Dunas on Janaury 29th. I'm sure I will post pics afterwards for you guys to check out!

We are also qualified for the free wedding, however we are getting some ad-ons.  We were told to let the wedding co-ordinator know what ad-ons we want at least one month prior to the wedding.  We are doing most of the booking through the Canadian co-ordinator who works for Sol-Melia.  Her name is Brenda, and she has been absolutely wonderful! brenda@solmeliacuba.ca

We will also work out with her the plans for our post-wedding dinner with our guests.

If you go to youtube and search for melia las dunas, or cayo santa maria, or santa clara, you will find a couple videos!

Hope this helps!

As of Janaury 29, 2008... Married my one and only- I'm a MRS!!

Hey MLD brides...

Does the resort have a wedding photographer?

Just wondering because I am looking at changing my resort from Iberostar Varadero to this resort.

Thanks

Brianne
