Okay, so I met with my wedding cake lady last night and the original plan was to go for a smaller 2 tier cake for FH and I to cut and then have a slab cake in the kitchen for the guests to eat.  So the cake lady suggested an 8" bottom layer and a 6" top layer.  Was discussing it with my mum this morning and she flipped out that it was way too small and would just look stupid on the table or in pictures.

So my question is how big was everyone's cake?

Your Mom's reaction is exactly like my DH's was.  "A 2-tiered cake will look dumb" he said.  So we spent $400 on a 3-tiered cake that could serve 150 people, when we only had 50 guests, and 2 slices were eaten.

Don't waste the money.

yeahh same here we went all fancy and had a 4-tier with 3 on the sides (so 7 cakes total) but we did have a lot of people at our wedding (maybe 300 guests) but it was way too much cake! we ended up with soo much leftover it sucked. Its true that a small cake might look weird but keep in mind that there are a ton of ways to decorate the cake table that could make up for it!

6”, 10”, 14” (fake) – 4” high
8”, 12” – 3” high

120 servings... we are thinking to -serving and +fake tier since our venue will provide dessert too on the menu...

I wanted a 2 tier cake simply for "the photo". FH had no problem with that either. However girlfriend's godfather is making it for me and he's making me a 3 tier for nothing. However, I have yet to go a wedding where I have had a piece of wedding cake.  With the sweet tables that they have, I have never touched the wedding cake.

We are going all out with our cake, 4 layers, $550, but I wanted it more as a large decoration and for the pics... I doubt it will be worth the money but hey, I hope I am only getting married once! lol
