We had 6 wonderful days in the Maldives...it truly is paradise on earth! We flew out from Dubai and landed 4 hours later at the Male International Airport; basically a small island with a runway on it!! The city of Male is on an adjacent island!
From there, we boarded our sea plane which was a 45 minute flight to Sun Island! Sea planes are very cool! Our pilot, who flew in shorts and bare feet was from Saskatchewan, he worked in the Maldives during every Canadian winter as a sea plane pilot and came home in the summer to be a volunteer forest fire fighter! Good deal if you ask me! Sun Island Resort from our sea plane
This is a picture of our sea plane docked near Sun Island. We had to stand on this little plank of wood in the middle of the water where we waited for our boat to take us to the island!
We arrived at Sun Island, checked in and were taken by golf cart to our little cottage next to the beach. We decided against a water bungalow because there would've been no beach nearby for us to lie on, you'd have to walk to it! The cottage was an awesome choice. Every morning, you could walk out your back door to lie on your own reserved sun lounges by your own private stretch of beach! It was divine!!! View of our cottage from the beach
Our sun lounges before we dragged them down to the beach

The snorkelling was amazing! I have never really had the opportunity to swim in an ocean like this before. You could walk a few steps into the water, put on your snorkelling gear, and stick your head in to find fish all around you and coral reefs a short distance away! We saw the most amazing fish, right out of Finding Nemo!!

A Titan Triggerfish surrounded by little Needlefish. We didn't realize until after we snorkelled with them that Triggerfish can be vicious and aggressive if they're mating and have one nasty bite!!!
Daniel trying to see if the fish will come up to nibble his finger...
Little did he know that this baby black tipped reef shark was swimming nearby...I took this picture, told my cutiepie hubby about it and he bolted out of the water!!! Even though they have this amazing presence in the water, they are more afraid of us, as we tried to follow a couple of them while snorkelling and they took off!
Every morning we had a breakfast buffet, followed by tons of activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, squash, table tennis, jet skiing and riding bicycles. The island was pretty large so we rented bicycles for the week to travel around with. In the afternoons, we chose a different restaurant every day to eat at, which varied from Chinese, Italian, Grill or Cafe and later had ice cream for dessert and walked around the island. Us at the Chinese Restaurant in one of the water bungalows
Us in front of the Italian Restaurant before it poured with rain!

In the evening, we had a dinner buffet every night. The food was wonderful and they made sure that their guests never had the same thing twice. We never got tired of the food there! Sun and the beach in the afternoon
Every night there were shark feedings (which we never got a chance to see as the tide was too low for them to come in), and also sting ray and fish feedings. One of the birds on the island had a good tactic...wait for the humans to try to feed the sting ray (below) and then steal the fish for myself!!!
It was a wonderful experience and I would love to do it again! The snorkelling just amazed me and the number of fish we saw were incredible! Definitely try to make it out to the Maldives if you can!!! You will not regret it!!
