Any info you can provide on your experience with your vendors would really be helpful (good or bad).  Please post! I am getting married in July 2009 and would really like to know the great, good, bad and the ugly!

Thank you!

i thought i'd give my two cents, although i won't really know just how good my vendors are until our wedding day.  but so far, service has been good .....

my florist - pollination (w georgia & broughton) is great.  Jennifer is really passionate and excited about her work. she has great ideas and i think she's going to do a fabulous job.  we could've easily gone with more "established" florists like granville island florist, vivio, but they were pretty much what's your budget? well, this is what you'll get - been there done that sort of attitude.  i think it makes a difference when someone is really excited about their work and puts a lot of pride into it.

one venue we thought would be great, but the catering manager was useless, was the Hotel Vancouver Fairmont.  Wow - she is not very good at promoting the hotel or getting anyone excited about having their wedding there. it's a beautiful venue, but if i don't get a good vibe from the catering manager, forget it. (we've gone with the four seasons instead - they're really awesome!)

Are you only interested in Downtown Van?  I got married at Coyote Creek Golf Course in Surrey and most of my vendors are out that way.

I too haven't had my day yet so my review isn't quite complete but:

The Butler Did it Catering (caterer): Soooooo loving them to work with. Erin is our coordinater and she's been so good about getting back to me, answering my questions and gave me all kinds of great information when we did the walk through of our venue. Plus the food is amazing too!

Van Dusen Gardens (ceremony location): Another great place to work with. Corinne has been answering all kinds of questions for me left right and centre and she's been a big help in figuring out the wedding ceremony.

Valley Decor (decorator): I absolutely loved their selection of colours and fabrics. They are a little difficult to get to though as their office is in Abbotsford but they have so much selection of decor and will show you how it can all be used.

Keepsake Portraits (photographer): Dennis from Keepsake is a very very good friend of mine. He's been taking wedding portraits and family portraits for over 15 years now. He'll travel wherever you want and when we were doing our engagement shoot at Golden Ears park we had a ton of fun. I don't think I laughed and smiled so much before.

Gentleman Jims Limos (transportation): I have heard nothing but good things about these guys. We're getting one of their new cars which has doors that swing open to better get in and out with your dress on. Plus they have smaller Sedan cars which we're using at the end of the night. We used them for my friends wedding and the limo was very clean, early to arrive and got us to the venue in no problem at all.

MJM Wedding (wedding dress): I bought my dress from Myrna and I loved the experience there. I had her store to myself and could take as much time and pick as many dresses as I wanted. All of her stuff looked brand new and some can even be ordered in new. Plus the week before the wedding I'm going back and renting a crinoline from her which saves me a bunch by not having to buy one.

Cupcakes (cake): We're doing a cake and cupcakes through cupcakes and the only problem we had was narrowing down flavours. You can choose from all of their regular and seasonal flavours. They're also doing our wedding cake. You have to go in to see their portfolio of cakes, it's very different from the ones on the website.

Spence Diamonds (wedding rings): We got my rings from here and if you find you have to get them from Spence then go to the one in Langley. The one in Vancouver has royally screwed up orders, pricing, ring setting and more on a number of occations. The Langley store was able to do my wedding ring with no problems at all though!

Scottish Cultural Centre (reception location): Great locations, huge hall and so easy to work with. They are such a great find I can't recommend them enough. Seating for 360, no corking fee, able to store before the day and you can bring in your own food and beverage.

Fox Ridge Pub (alcohol): this was a find I came across from a wedding show. Mike can fill orders for just about any alcohol you can think of. As long as it's over $500 I believe it's delivered to your location free of charge. Anything that doesn't get used can also be brought back for return. They are located out of Maple Ridge though and the liquor must be return to the store so that could be a drive for some people.

Well I think that's about it for local. There are some things like tuxes that don't apply as we're doing kilt rentals and the rest of the items are being done by friends of the family. Good luck with your planning!
