So...yesterday, I found a chocolate fountain on sale for $40...and I bought it. It was an impulse buy...and I am thinking I want to get some white chocolate Bernard Callebaut slabs and have a white chocolate fountain with cream puffs and strawberries at the reception...

THEN...I went home and told FH about it, and he FLIPPED! He said that it would end up being a waste of $80 that could be better put toward our wedding debt. I would still need to buy toothpicks for the food, and the cream puffs and strawberrites (Costco), along with some extra napkins. I am going to take some plates from my house to use for the cream puffs and strawberries.

This is the only thing so far that I have bought that wasn't carefully planned out...it was a total impulse buy.

So...I need a bit of advice...I am worried that setting it up is going to be a problem. I am going to ask the catering company if they can help set it up, and get it ready to go. As far as i know, the chocolate has to be melted in the microwave, then put in the machine along with a bit of vegetable oil to get the right consistency going.

Has anyone done this, or have any experience with chocolate fountains?? Am I crazy for thinking it will be an easy set-up and take-down?? I have a couple of friends that will definitely help with it...but I'm still worried...Advice??? Opinions???

Finally Mrs. Rosell!!

You are NOT crazy!

We bought a chocolate fountain for $40 and had it at our wedding reception instead of a cake. BIL melted the chocolate and got it running for us so when we had our entrance it was already going. Strawberries and marshmellows and stuff are not that expensive. The only negative is cleaning the machine afterwards, which really needs to be done ASAP after turning it off and tossing the extra chocolate.

PM me if you have any questions!

I have thought about renting one, but I will have a lot of kids at my wedding and I'm afraid of the mess they will make, they are sooo messy, I would hate to get chocolate on my dress, I guess white chocolate would be better in case it does get on you.

Don't worry about the mess. It's up to the parents to monitor their kids with that sort of thing. I've been to plenty of weddings with chocolate fountains and never seen anyone go hog wild with it. Usually people are so busy talkign and dancing and drinking they don't horde around the dessert table much in my experience. It's usually an orderly line up for the sweet table at first and then most people are full and don't go back for seconds and thirds, etc.

I honestly wouldn't worry all that much about the mess people will make. What they are expected to do is put a bunch of fruit/marshmallows on skewers and then hold it under the fountain stream, and then it goes onto their plate. By the time they get it back to their table it's cooled and not as runny anymore anyway. They are delicious. If you want one and can appoint a capable person to set it up and take it down after you'll be fine.

Me (29) + FH (32) + his son (12) = 9.5 years together

Done so far:
Asked wedding party, decided on venue (Miller Lash), got catering quotes, decided theme, brainstorming details, started dress search, hired kicka$$ planner, made vendor lists, fought with FMIL, made up with FMIL, lost e-ring, found e-ring... only 10 mos to go!

ok I guess me and my future SIL are the only ones who get the chocolate all over our hands and make a mess of ourselves with it, lol!

and just because children should be the responsibility of their parents doesn't mean you can count on that.

I have a chocolate fountain we got as a gift and its really easy to use. You do need a lot of chocolate and oil for it but its pretty user-friendly. And as someone else mentioned I would make sure it gets cleaned right away or else its a PITA!
