Do you think people would eat the wedding cake as the dessert?  Our caterer doesn't offer dessert with our meal and I thought it would be nice to use our cake as dessert, but we're worried people won't eat it.  We want to have different flavors such as strawberry, lime, orange, etc., which I think may make people want to try it.  We are going to do the cake cutting shortly after the meal and serve it early while everyone is still around.

What has been everyone else's experince with the wedding cake?

Thanks for the help!!

Absolutely they'll eat the cake for dessert!  They'll eat whatever you give them!

I've been to a few weddings where the wedding cake is served as dessert.  I should have done that....instead of serving dessert and wasting $400 on a wedding cake that didn't get eaten.

definately.  I was going to do this myself... but the desert is included in our price anyways, and to take it out wasn't going to make a big different... so we'll use their desert... and offer cake later for anyone who wants it.

I think it depends on timing. If the cake is placed in front of each person, then absolutely they'll eat it. But if the cake is placed in a central location for people to self-serve (already cut up of course), I think people would be less likely to eat it... Well, that is what I've experienced anyways Another option for getting people to eat cake it to have the caterers walk around with a tray of cake offering it to people.

It has been my experience that if the cake is served as a desert just after the meal it is far more likley to be eaten then if it is served as part  sweet table later in the evening.
