Yesterday we had a BBQ @ a friends house & brought some sausages with us, they were Chedder Smokies which are produced by Schniders so we didn't think twice about buying them. This morning we heard that these paticular sausages are made in the Maple Leaf food plant where the listeriosis outbreak originated.

I'm calling my friend right now to see if she can check the package (in the garbage) to see if they have the code "97 B" on it (that's the plant number) as we had a few packages of them, some were purchase a few weeks ago (best before Sept. 23) and the recall for these includes products with the best before date upto & including October 29th.

Should I go to the Dr? Apparently listeriosis can have a 70 day incubation period.

I would call your doctor and see what they recommend. They might have you come in just to be safe!

I understand why you are concerned.  This outbreak is truly scary.  I've been trying to think back to what we've eaten in the last couple of months!!!  Its impossible to know for sure what we consumed.

I think you are doing the right thing by asking your friend to retrieve the packaging.  Maple Leaf has indicated what products are of concern.  If the code is the same then I wouldn't think twice about calling your doctor.  However, to be on the safe side, there is nothing wrong with asking questions so a call might be warranted anyways.      For sure keep the package.

Try to stay calm.  I know its hard and most people are worried.  Its one of those things that we can't control.  Sure we can avoid the packages now but the damage is already done.

It seems like the list of foods that are safe is growing smaller!!!   Only a couple of months ago we had the tomato scare!!

Do you know when she bought them?  Because it was very recently, then the recalled ones were probably already pulled off the shelves.

Try not to panic too much.  I suspect that it's like other foodborne things - even if you consume it, you may not necessarily get sick from it.

ETA - reread the original post and see some were packaged a while ago.  FYI, here's the exact info from the CFIA page:

HTH!  And again, try not to panic too much

Sarah - we got the 1 package a few weeks ago (3 weeks, it's good until Sept23) and the other package yesterday (good until Oct29) and the Schneider's food wasn't added to the list until last night SO these products could both have been involved.

I doubt we'd get sick but becuase my immune system has been low due to my surgery (my body took a long time to heal & my immune system was having a hard time getting back to normal, my white & red blood cell count is still low, 2 years later) I'd be worried if I did get sick it may affect me a bit more than the average person.

I'll know more later today when my friend goes through her garbage (she must love me) and I'll update them.

ETA: thank goodness her son ate a hotdog last night & not a sausage!!

I know how you feel; we just got back from the cottage and I have no way to check the packaging having coming back to this news and of course it went in the trash at the cottage, but I also purchased some sort of smokey sausages, Maple Leaf bacon and packaged chicken nuggets while we were there.  I did notice today that Maple Leaf sausage and bacon are still on the shelves in Zehrs so perhaps they aren't on the list, but I'd feel safer staying away from anything related at this point.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything is ok as we all ate this stuff, the girls, DH & Buster.   This is completely disgusting - we put our faith in these companies....how does something like this happen?  With the long period before symptoms can occur, this has the makings of a complete disaster.

I saw that & she's checking the UPC code & looking for "97 B" which apparently is the plant number.
