| I saw the apology too..at first I thought it was a horrible commercial with a monotone actor, then I realized what it was about. I as really impressed by it, and both my husband and I went 'wow' after hearing it. THe sad thing is, once they have given the a-okay for everything to continue, they are going to lose so much business...

sweetpea61 (8/25/2008) I know how you feel; we just got back from the cottage and I have no way to check the packaging having coming back to this news and of course it went in the trash at the cottage, but I also purchased some sort of smokey sausages, Maple Leaf bacon and packaged chicken nuggets while we were there. I did notice today that Maple Leaf sausage and bacon are still on the shelves in Zehrs so perhaps they aren't on the list, but I'd feel safer staying away from anything related at this point. I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything is ok as we all ate this stuff, the girls, DH & Buster. This is completely disgusting - we put our faith in these companies....how does something like this happen? With the long period before symptoms can occur, this has the makings of a complete disaster.I hope you are not affected at all. If you feel sick then maybe you should call your Dr. just to be on the safe side.

| I'm not entirely sure that things like this are happening more, or if we're just hearing about it more. With the internet and other global media, we hear about a lot more events and incidents than we ever did 50 or 100 years ago, and faster than ever. Our grandparents probably didn't hear much about things in the next province, let alone in countries around the world.

Not to mention all the toys recalled because of lead paint, etc. Now that we DO have all these ways to hear about it, it scares the *** out of me

| I too was very impressed by the apology, but the fact remains.....what price do you put on human life and this DID occur because the plant was not properly sanitized; that is where the corporate responsibility lies. I agree that Maple Leaf foods had a very good reputation; we purchased their product all the time, but with the possibility of people not displaying symptoms for several months, no one can predict at this point how far-reaching this may be. Again, what price do you put on human life? I feel quite certain that it will take a lot for Maple Leaf foods to recover from the class action lawsuits sure to be launched. Keep us posted when you go to the Dr Miley!

Well it turns out I don't need to go to the Dr. We rechecked the package and neither of them had the recalled UPC codes on it so we're safe, the Dr. said it is ok to not come in as long as we're sure that the packaging doesn't have the codes on it we are ok but if my cold gets worse & I get a stiff neck, and more flu like symptoms I should come in to see him ASAP. I hope everyone else that may have ate contaminated meat is ok.

That's good news Leighann; sure wish we had the packaging to check but we'll be sure to get to the Dr if we have any flu symptoms....we're thinking that because we are all in good health we probably don't have to worry too much. I heard on the news that they are now attributing 12 deaths thus far.....very scary how many may actually be affected.
