Every week we plan out all our meals so we're never buying more than we need and therefore never wasting food. Before we started meal planning we would spend about $250 every 2-3 weeks and so much of our food would end up in the garbage because we'd buy stuff and forget we had it in the fridge, or just end up eating out.

You're awesome!!

I once tried to convince my husband that we need to do one big shop at the beginning of the week, and go into the supermarket knowing what we need. His response was "We can't do that, because we never know when we might be going out".

Hmm... We eat out LOTS!

We spend about $75-$100 per week.  We very, very rarely buy prepared meals, so most everything is made from scratch.  We eat lots of fresh fruits and veg.  We're both pretty cheap in general, so we buy what's on sale and work that into the menu.  And we buy fairly cheap cuts of meat (stew beef done in the slow cooker, chicken legs instead of breasts).

Same goes for us.  We spend about $150 or so every 2 weeks, so I guess thats about $75-100 per week.   Thats for me, DH, and our son who is 3 and never stops eating

Im with you on the no frills thing. I cannot shop there, harldy enought fresh food, always crowded and I feel like im in a warehouse. We usually spend about $100-$150 depending on how much we plan to go out that week. I buy lunch at work ALOT (I know bad)....So I dont think your really over budget.

DH and I shop every two weeks. It just happened to be this past Thursday, and we spent $85. We also shop at Costco about once a month and spend around $200 for a variety of meats that we freeze. And we pick up some extra stuff usually on the weekend. So probably $100 a week when you add everything up.

Haha! I think that thought was at the back of my DH's mind when I brought the idea up! "What about eating out??" It's worked really well for us so far- the only problem with it so far is just getting my lazy DH to come to the store with me!

I think we spend an average of about $150 a week for the two of us.  My guy works weird shifts, he flips from days to nights once a week, sometimes he works a straight 7 day week flipping right in the middle, and all his days are 12 hours long and that's if they don't need something done right at the end.  It follows a monthly pattern but it's still crazy.  So I plan every breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus daily snacks, needed from one of his days off until one of his next days off.  So that could be 7 days or 10 days.  Then we go grocery shopping.  I get a lot of fresh fruits and veggies and meats.  When he's on nights, he likes to have a dinner before he goes to work at 6 pm and a dinner when he gets off at 6 am.  And all leftovers become his lunch for the day or night.  I've talked him into having soup and a grilled cheese sometimes when he gets off work in the mornings though, cause it's cheaper than making a whole second dinner meal.  But he gets bored with that quickly, so I freeze a container of chili when I make it so I can defrost that and use it for his morning meal in between soup and sandwich days.  Or I'll just make spaghetti since that's a cheap meal, too.  Anyway, yeah, probably $150 a week.  We could eat for a lot less I'm sure, but then we wouldn't have all the variety and freshness and fun!  But we rarely ever eat out at all.  Not even once a week.  Maybe once every two weeks.  And that's usually if we forget to eat before we leave the house to go grocery shopping and by the time we get to the store we realize we're starving and will likely start adding junk to the cart that we don't need, so then we grab something for lunch real quick.  But it definitely comes out cheaper to plan all our meals and grocery shop.  Plus I like cooking.

DH and I spend about $75-$100 on food per week. Like OP, I try to include organic items, but I've done some research and only the only organic things I buy are those that are high in pesticides when they are grown the regular way.

We also eat a lot of fruit and vegetables....
