here is picture of my set, a princess-cut, lucida-set solitaire and a shared-prong, princess cut eternity band. My wedding band sits flush against my e-ring, with the solitaire sitting just a bit higher. My friend has a brillant cut solitaire and went with a shared-prong brillant cut eternity band, which is also beautiful.

I think a plain band looks elegant with the solitaire.

Go to the jewelry stores and try them all on! That's the only way you'll find what you love. I also have a very delicate band on my solitaire, and it's 1/3 carat, so I discovered that in a channel-set anything more than .25 carat just overwhelms it, and that I don't like anything thicker than 2.5mm. I also decided I didn't want a channel set wring anyway, because I saw so many of them and I wanted something that everyone else didn't have (not a commentary on anyone else's ring, just my own thing. I'm contrary like that. Same reason I wouldn't get a pick-up skirt in my dress.). I will probably get a vintage-looking solitaire and diamond band from one of the goldsmiths here in Halifax, but I'm waiting for their January sale

the diamond in my solitaire is fairly small, but I went with a funky diamond band... I knew I didn't want a plain band either

here is my set.  the e-ring was designed by DH- platinum brilliant solitaire.  My w-band was designed to match.  the bands are exactly identical with 6 brilliant cut diamonds evenly spaced around the w-band.  we also wanted to match his w-band to mine-- very improtant to him--so his band is identical on the inside surrounded by 2 yellow gold bands.  it works well and I love that no one has anything like it- it is all custom made!
