As much as I love Paris, stay in Rome.  You won't have much time in Paris and it's a fair trip from the airport to town, so the round trip to the hotel to the city will take up a bunch of your time, so really you won't have enough time to do much in Paris with such a short stop over, so I would just relax in Rome for the day.  Rome is a beautifl city too.
