| Hi ladies! I am going back to work part time starting next week and I need to buy a pump asap so Katie can get used to taking a bottle. I was going to borrow one but I heard about thrush and now I don't really want to take the chance. I am looking for a reasonably priced pump that I will be using quite a bit for the next 5-6 months. Any recommendations? pros/ cons to certain types or brands? I will be using playtex drop in liner bottles to feed her. Thanks!

Ohhh....one sec, let me go into my email so I can copy and paste into here -- my good friend is a lactation consultant and I asked her this exact same question! Here's her answer....
Different pumps are good for different things. If baby is separated from you (i.e born very premature), a rental pump will probably be necessary. If it is for occasional use only, a manual pump would be sufficient.
But since this is going on your registry the three brands we would recommend would be...
Medela
Ameda
Avent....these are harder to find because they were pulled to change the plastic.
Ameda is only available in hospital and clinics. A very basic double electric pump runs about $169.
Medela is probably the best seller. There is a manual for about $64.
There is also a couple of electric to consider.
The Pump in Style is very popular, comes in a backpack or carry case and is double electric....around $300. This is great for once milk is established and can be used many times every day.
They also have one called The Swing Pump which is electric but only a single pump. This is good for occasional pumping. I think it runs about $125. This is quite new and the mothers are saying great things about this pump.
All these are available at Toys R Us and Sears. If anyone shops over the river they can save at least $100.
Since this is going on your registry, I would probably recommend the Pump in Style, only because someone else would be buying it. If you have to buy, I would say the Swing or the manual because they are less expensive.
But honestly you might not need any pump at all. If you are staying home, you can feed the baby, but I realize you have to get out too!
There are many cheaper pumps on the market, but like everything else, you get what you pay for.

| Hey! I use the Medela Swing electric pump. I pump exclusively since I had a really hard time with breast feeding and I love this pump. It's not noisy and works really well. It wasn't cheap at $199.00, but definitely worth it since I heard that the cheaper Medela electric pump was really noisy, and if you plan to pump quite a bit, there is no way I would even consider a manual pump. I got mine from Babies R' Us, and they had a $20 off coupon that I used, they may still have it. Good luck!

I pump at least once a day because I freeze my breast milk for later use. I love my Swing pump. If I had to go back and do it again I would purchase the Medela swing again. Totally worth the money!

I have the Medela 3 in 1...for occasional use and I wouldn't recommend it for every day use. I use it occasionally when I'm going out or whatever. Like someone else said, it is quite loud, so that is a con. My SIL used the SWING and L-O-V-E-S it! I'm actually going to be borrowing it in the New Year so I can start storing some milk for when she starts on solids (cereal mostly). It is alright to use someone elses pump, as long as you have your own "kit"-- at least that's what I was told by my LC.
ETA: It might take Katie longer then a week to be ok with a bottle. Charlotte absolutely refuses to take a bottle...regardless of what we do. I hope Katie takes one...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

| I have the Medela Mini Electric. I LOVED it in the beginning as it was easy to pump as my breasts were always full. He'd sleep through the night and then I'd be able to pump easily. Now it's not so easy. If I have to pump when I go back to work, I'm not sure mine will work. My SIL has a medela ... I think it's a double electric.. I can't remember but she can almost pump full time. I think it was quite pricier.
