I just wanted to comment on that post above about frequently cleaning your ring....at peoples...they use the ultrasonic cleaner..which...basically just knocks the dirt out....there are no harsh abrasive cleaners used..... I also read somewhere its actually good to clean your ring requently because when dirt gets in between the diamond and your pronges that actually will loosen the stone and make it more susceptible to fall out...keeping it clean prevents any dirt from building up and getting into the pronges...thats just what ive read as well.....gotta love the internet!hahahahah..

If you are referring to the info I posted, I think their point is against polishing (or buffing) a ring as opposed to just cleaning it.

Yup i was...thats why i put that i was commenting on the post above.....ya know i know thats what you meant...thats why i was recommeding Peoples  as an alternative for people because it can be used more frequently and you dont have to worry about it damaging your ring because there are no harmful chemicals!

You can get your ring cleaned at any store even if you didn't buy your ring/s from them... I know because I've done it often! LOL

I don't find that the cleaning machines at peoples' do too much, they seem to take the dirt off the outside, but not from under the stones, and if under there is dirty then your rings won't be sparkly.

I bought a toothbrush for toddlers, it's really soft and small, and i clean the underneath and top with some soap, dish soap is best because it attracts all the oils and washes them away.

I use the ASTERIA polishing cream and rinse spray that you can buy at the wedding shows.  They clean all types of jewelry and have no acid, alcohol, ammonia or abrasives.  Typically I think a bit of dish soap and toothbrush is fine but the cream actually removes the tarnish due to daily wear, pollution, dirt, etc.  After you wipe it down, the cloth actually turns black from the tarnish!  I was really surpised to see that considering I keep my ring really clean already.

The bay & zellers sell decent ring cleaning solution for under 10 bucks. I use that to clean my ring weekly as well as with the cloth. When I get into a mall I try to stop off at a jewellers with the sonic cleaner. Most jewellers offer this as a courtesy, but I alway ensure they have the cleaner out front. I worked in the industry before and heard horror stories about diamonds being swapped when the ring was taken to the back.

I have heard that the sonic cleaner can knock your stone out if you have worn down prongs on your ring and its not good for some semi-precious gems. It is also good to get your stone check every couple years to ensure your prongs are holding up. The higher your gold karat is the more frequently you will need to build up the prongs because gold is a soft metal.

Here's a good site with more info.

Also you can get the sonic cleaners from a rock store. And I don't mean diamond, I mean real rocks. I asked one of the jewelers because I'm obsessed with keeping my ring clean since thats the only time it comes off my finger.

My ring was bought at Peoples and I take it in there every time I go to the mall and have it cleaned, and it always looks so sparkly and amazing!

It is also white gold that has turned a tad yellow on the underside. I will be getting it redipped a month before the wedding.

My ring is also yellowing, but I dont care anymore. It isn't going to look 'gorgeous" for the rest of my life, and the more it shows wear, the more it has been through

I am really wanting to do a certain dance, instead of just rehersing.
