| Sorry if there are other posts about this... Wondering if anyone has an idea of what those shots cost? I had assumed they were covered under your health card...

I only got 2 doses and yes they were about 60 each, but my benefits covered a portion so I only had to pay about 10 bucks each.

| If you go to a VON travel clinic you will have to pay a fee for the nurse to give the shot - the last time I got travel vaccinations, I think it was either $25 or $50. I am not sure if physicians charge to give the shots. Provincial health cards don't cover these vaccinations probably because they are optional.

Shop around for Twinrix, as it varies in price depending on where you get it. And yes, you may have to pay a "travel consultation" or "injection fee" if you go to a clinic and not your regular doctor.
I got burned on my first dose of Twinrix as I went to a walk-in clinic that had a pharmacy attached. $30 for the "travel consultation" (even though I already knew what I wanted as SIL is a nurse), and then the pharmacy next door charged me $83 for ONE dose!
My second dose is coming from a different pharmacy ($65) and SIL will inject me.
DH got his from a different pharmacy again and it cost him $55.
This will NOT be covered under your Provincial plan as Hep A is not considered a mandatory vaccine. Hep B vaccine is currently being done on a mandatory basis for Grade 5's (in Alberta), but for adults we still have to pay--and the Hep B vaccine alone is more than the Twinrix.
So your best bet is to call a few pharmacies and ask them. If you have drug coverage through your employer, this should be an acceptable charge through them, but if you're unsure, phone and find out.
Hope that helped,
Melissa

I already had the Hep B vaccinations, so instead of Twinrix, I got ViVaxim. It protects against Hep A and Typhoid fever. It think it cost me 70$ and my arm was really sore for a solid 2 days.

| I checked with my local shoppers drug mart and they are $70 each. My family doctor will administer the shot for no additional charge. As I am going to Egypt I also had to get the booster shot for polio, tetanus and diphtheria. That had no additional fee.
