I have never had a white gold ring before but I have had other pieces of jewelery. I have a white god tennis bracelet that I've been wearing for the same amount of time and it hasn't turned.

I'm just a little annoyed about it. When someone spends a fair bit of money on something so special, I would hope it would last longer. I will have to get it re-plated. And if it doesn't fix it I may look into getting it reset at a different jewelery store.

And I'm sorry for mentioning the name of the store in my original post....I guess I was just a little upset when I wrote the post

White gold turning yellow-ish is terribly common. Mine has turned quite yellow on the palm side. When FH bought the ring (at People's) he bought the lifetime warranty which allows me to get my ring redipped when ever I want. It's not a huge deal to me, but I am getting it done a month before the wedding. Gotta have the e-ring & w-ring match!!!

Another option is to look into something that is called 19 karat white gold...my fh got my engagement ring in this setting....most jewellery stores havent heard of it...we got it done through a custom jeweller who comes in under the People's Store..so he's very credible...and ive had my ring appraised and the appraiser didnt tell me it was a fake or anything...hahaha...anyways...19k is basically a new way to mix the metals...so..like everyone has said....18k white gold is just white plated...19k white gold is white all the way through...so there is no turning colours..its a little bit more expensive...but...worth it and not as expensive as platnuim...since my fh got my engagement ring in that gold we went back to get my band done in that..so i will never have to worry about it turning!!its very new and not a lot of people have heard of it...but its such a great alternative...i cant imagine why not....

Oh yeah, it's VERY cool! There is a store in Edmonton that carries this type of white gold - Vandenburgs. I tried to get them to tell me the mix of alloys to achieve this and they said that even they don't know...hrmmmm

About a week or so ago I brought my ring in to get it redipped and got it back. It now looks like a white gold band! Very happy with it. I bet what happened is when they sized it they didn't redip it when they were done. I also had a couple of scratches on it that are now gone.

I did ask about the cost of platinum. She told me it's about 10 times the cost of what the ring would normally be. I asked what it would cost to get a platinum band with the diamond....she said that the band alone would be about a thousand. I may save up the money at some point and do it...but not right now!

Our jeweller, who is a friend of the family, told us that the 19k gold thing is basically B.S. a and just a way for the stores to get more moola from the customer...I don't know who's right or wrong - but I wouldn't just take a store's word for it before doing a bit more research.

Counting down to  06/07/08!  Can't wait!
